I had a basement fire in my golf storage area on June 12, 2009.
I had 269 golf clubs stored there.
127 clubs burned and totally destroyed.
142 clubs damaged but I'm keeping them.

I am looking for a way to claim damages with my home owner's insurance.
Does this seem like an adequate dollar value.
$10 for each club destroyed equaling $1,270
$10 for each club I'm keeping (for regrip costs) equaling $1,420

Most of the clubs that burned were my collection of woods with a few irons among them. Most were very old technology with steel shafts and small heads. I did check on Ebay and found $10 to be about the asking price for most of these clubs.

I beleive you have to give values like this to your insurance company in the first place. If home owners insurance is anything like, say, the medical insurance industry, Id bet almost anything you are SOL on this.

You can certainly try that with the adjuster, but I think you'll run into problems trying to sell the regrip costs. Old school clubs aren't generally going to be considered "players". If you're not playing them, that means they've been sitting there for however long......10, 20 years? The grips were toast a long time ago and the fire didn't likely make them any less playable than they already were. I think you'll have a hard time showing the "loss" you've suffered as a result of the fire.

$10 per club for those that were destroyed seems reasonable, but the adjuster may feel differently. I'd be prepared to show him how you came up with that number. My .02 worth.

I think mtsalmela80 is right about this. When I finally completed my set I had updated both my car and home insurance policies with the dollar value of my equipment. My agent told me that he hears of stolen clubs and unless it's listed on the policy it's difficult for the adjuster to pay the claim. Sorry to hear about the loss and good luck and I hope you can catch a break!
