I recently built my own set of wedges. Previously I had used the "wedge flex" shafts with Cleveland CG10 heads. I thought it would be neat to try out something different, so I bought a bunch of S400 shafts, tip-trimmed them to 5" and threw on some component heads I had bought. I must say, the feel is night and day. In comparing the shafts, I think the difference is more in the tip-trimming than in the flex difference (~2cpm S200 to S400). The wedge flex shafts don't appear to be tipped at all. The True Temper logo is around 5" higher above the hosel on the wedge flexies than the S400s I built. I'm getting some incredible control with the tip-trimming. There's a little more roll-out, particularly since I switched to some V-groove wedges, but it's manageable. What's most impressive is the directional accuracy. I feel like I can hit the flagstick from 50-75 yards (though it doesn't happen that often). What's behind the non-tipped wedges you get at retail stores? Has anyone else switched to a tipped wedge (SW, LW) and felt that it was considerably different?

i play Acer XC wedges with Dynalite shafts tip trimmed to stiff. I like them alot.

One thing to consider is that the retail wedges might be taper tip shafts, which would explain why the logo was in a different spot.

In my bag:

some golf clubs

a few golf balls

a bag of tee's some already broken the rest soon to be

a snickers wrapper (if you have seen me play, you would know you are not going anywhere for a while)

and an empty bottle of water

That's a good point. I didn't think about that. They are the True Temper dynamic gold "Wedge Flex" shafts. I assumed these were S300 seconds and probably parallel tip, but I really don't know without pulling off the clubhead.

I'm still experimenting, but the set I built with S400s tipped 5" for the 56 and 60 seem awfully stiff. I thought I maybe should have cut them at 3.5" or even gone with a R300. I'm still trying to find the best shaft that matches my X100s on my full swings, but gives me good feel on chips and shorter pitches. Right now, I love the full-swing trajectory on the 56 and 60, but it feels like a pipe for short shots.
