I do almost the same exact thing and i can tell you it definitely helps with contact and added more yards for me.

the being said, the only problem i had was getting a consistent forward press position. But i think like me, once you keep doing that and working on it, within about 2-3 rounds, you'll start to slowly weaken your grip to a slightly strong/neutral grip and the forward press will be a little less. That's what happened to me.

When i DON'T do the press and strong grip, i hit very fat crappy shots. I didn't roll my arms, so that forward press/strong grip helps me hit straight and far.

another way to do it is to move the ball to the back of your stance by about an inch, but keep your hands forward. you generate good backspin and you usually hit the ball further and lower.

Earlier this season I was doing a lot of sweeping and casting. I started using a forward press like you are, and it taught me the feeling of really hitting down on the ball. However I would only use that much forward press until you get the feeling of hitting down on the ball ingrained in your head. Once I started striking the ball better, I started relying more on my weight shifting to my front side for making better contact. Now I barely have any forward press, but im striking the ball better than ever... you just need to get used to the feeling is all, so for now I think forward pressing like you are is good, but I wouldnt count on it as a permanent fix.

Congratulations Walther on your great round. I remember when I shot my lowest (39) round. The feeling was incredible.

And yes, I think that pressing your hands slightly in front of the ball does improve ball-striking.
