I had my first 1/2 hour lesson today. It seemed very productive.

The first thing we covered was grip, and how I had my bottom thumb parralel with my top thumb, and he said that this was wrong because it promoted using my bottom hand for power. Instead of that, he had me place my bottom thumb tip touching my index finger wrapped around the other side. So the only fingers really with any grasp were my pinky, ring and middle on my left, and my middle and ring on my right.

He had the analogy "the left hand is the horse and the right hand is the cowboy".

We then talked about how to setup for a shot, and he laughed because I told him I was closing the clubface at address to avoid slicing. We then talked about releasing to promote draws.

Finally he showed me how to hit three distances using my sand wedge.

I feel pretty good about the lesson. Was a lot of fun and I swear I was hitting better just following what he showed me today with the rest of my lesson bucket.

Oh we also talked about why I typically hit so damn fat. A lot of my weight was staying on my back leg, I had to start following through with my legs as well as my arms and sure enough, it did begin to improve.

    • Day 56 - 2024-11-15 Light day. Lots of catch-up work. Checked the grip to make sure I wasn't compensating there, and did a little backswing work.
    • Day 197 (15 Nov 24) - Played in the Friday men’s group outing - blustery conditions in play (wind gusting 10-20; spotty pop up misting rain; temps in the mid 50’s), so it was a good day to work on course management.  Solid round of 83 (41/42) - 7 GIR, total 32 putts - included 10 pars (3 being up and downs), a dbl and triple bogie.
    • Have been on a mid to low 80’s roll of late - today was no different with an 83 (41 front / 42 back).   Played in the Friday men’s group outing - blustery conditions in play (wind gusting 10-20; spotty pop up misting rain; temps in the mid 50’s), so it was a good day to work on course management, delivering 7 GIR, total 32 putts - included 10 pars (3 being up and downs), a dbl and triple bogie.  Local course starting to get that winter feel - wet areas wetter, thin grass thinner, greens  trickier.
