I love how some would consider everyone on the SandTrap a liar for having a longer game. I don't doubt that there's a healthy amount of liars out there, but there are a lot of good players on here where 300 may be a reachable distance.

155 is my exact 8 iron distance. But to 173 downhill, I could probably hit a low 9 draw and have it hit the front and roll into the middle. If it were 173 flat, I'd hit a high cut 7.

Or maybe these guys do seem long to you, but come on, they're professional athletes. Golf is the culmination of athletics without the aerobic aspect. That's one of the reasons I love it. You gotta be athletic, but you don't need to work up a sweat haha.

They've been working out pretty much they're whole life. They probably aren't even hitting it as solid as they can. They can probably hit it 185 with better contact.

I'm more than happy when I hit a drive that goes 250 yards and stays in the fairway.

I watched the same tournament and they announcer said it was downwind and playing short. Not sure if the tee was elevated or not either. Could be relatively easy to hit an 8i for some of those guys who are good golfers in their own right. IE just not some weekenders out there playing. I think the top 2 guys have won it 8 total times or something like that?

    • Day 2 (20 Jan 26) - Similar work as yesterday - started with lead hand solo drills with the 50°, followed by series of pitches and chips utilizing full setup.
    • Hey, thanks for the feedback. I do lift weights but I’m also adding yoga or Pilates for mobility and flexibility to my routine.
    • Day 18: 2026.01.20 Continuing work on arm raise during backswing. Starting to feel less weird, especially the slower I go. Looking like a busy week so might be the weekend before I can hit some balls.
    • It’s possible the graphite shaft has a small internal crack or a delamination. Tapping it and hearing a vibrating sound is usually a sign the shaft isn’t behaving as it should. Since the store wasn’t helpful, consider taking it to a club fitter or a pro shop that can check the shaft flex and integrity. If it’s defective, you might be able to get a replacement from the manufacturer.
    • It’s interesting how much a 3D system changes your understanding. Observing top players in full detail and realizing the trail knee shouldn’t fully extend is a great example of why being open to new info is so important. I like your approach: not trying to be “right,” but trying to teach correctly based on actual evidence. Makes sense why golfers would benefit from this perspective.
