Started playing golf a few months ago and just got done with my first lesson. While it's nice to know exactly what I was doing wrong before, I can't help but to be a bit frustrated that now I can't even hit a halfway decent shot.

How long can I expect it to take before the changes I've made in my grip and stance to feel more normal and start being able to hit the ball again?
Not that I was a great hitter before my lesson today, but I was able to make good (relative to me at least) contact with my irons... even played my best round on Sunday... but during my lesson and even with a large bucket of balls afterward I was able to hit a decent shot maybe 10% of the time. My corrected posture now is more upright than before, making the ball feel much closer in my stance, and I seem to be topping the ball. I was told my back-swing and corrected setup is great but now just need to work on the forward-swing and hip rotation throughout.

I realize one lesson isn't a quick fix and it will take time to readjust to everything, just wanted get an idea of how long I can expect it to take for my brain/body to get used to the new setup position..?

Took me about 3 weeks of 2x week driving range sessions. Plus another lesson to keep me on the rails, plus a few more sessions. I've seen younger people with more flexible bodies adapt much quicker to new body motions.

What you do in a lesson can feel pretty unfamiliar and uncomfortable at first, and for a good few sessions afterward.

Might sound like a chunk of time, but it was well, well worth it.

I was running 29 through 7 holes the other day, and my pro had a lot to do with it.

lessons to me are a never ending process... even tiger still has swing coaches...
first lessons and after making major swing changes are the toughest...
it all depends on you... some ppl adapt really fast... others never get 'it'...
plus ingraining new habits so they become second nature could take alot of time
RUSS's avg drive - 230yrds and climbing

Thanks for the reply guys!

I'm definitely planning on going back for more lessons but was planning on giving my corrections a couple weeks to take hold... at least until I can start hitting the ball fairly regularly again. Amazing how changing my posture a few degrees more upright really changed the way the rest of the swing went from start to finish.

I'm a pretty stubborn and persistent SOB so I'm hoping I can start to pull everything together rather quickly -- we'll see how it goes

    • Day 121: did a bit of mirror work with my driver. Working on shortening the backswing.
    • Day 305 - Grip and backswing work. Full swings were bothering the hip a bit.
    • Day 56 - 2024-11-15 Light day. Lots of catch-up work. Checked the grip to make sure I wasn't compensating there, and did a little backswing work.
    • Day 197 (15 Nov 24) - Played in the Friday men’s group outing - blustery conditions in play (wind gusting 10-20; spotty pop up misting rain; temps in the mid 50’s), so it was a good day to work on course management.  Solid round of 83 (41/42) - 7 GIR, total 32 putts - included 10 pars (3 being up and downs), a dbl and triple bogie.
    • Have been on a mid to low 80’s roll of late - today was no different with an 83 (41 front / 42 back).   Played in the Friday men’s group outing - blustery conditions in play (wind gusting 10-20; spotty pop up misting rain; temps in the mid 50’s), so it was a good day to work on course management, delivering 7 GIR, total 32 putts - included 10 pars (3 being up and downs), a dbl and triple bogie.  Local course starting to get that winter feel - wet areas wetter, thin grass thinner, greens  trickier.
