Question on Shaft

Guys I recently went to a demo day for Nike.... I hit several of the Nike Sasquatch max and loved them. My question is I hit the 9.5 stock stiff pretty good.. did not like the 10.5... then tested a 9.5 in the nv shaft hit it well except the rep said my ballflight was a little low... he said a 10.5 in the nv would be perfect... well he did not have one to try.. my question is do I trust the rep and get the 10.5 nv or just get the 9.5 stiff stock... in the long run isn't the nv set up going to be better just by sheer quality of the shaft??

I say trust the rep, most reps spend countless hours watching swings, looking at launch monitor numbers, etc. Don't be afraid of a higher loft than you're used to or compared to your playing partners.

If you're that worried then I also recommend that you buy from a shop that has some sort of trial period or good trade in program just in case you completely hate the 10.5

As a general rule, a majority of amateurs do not hit the ball high enough with the driver (and most long clubs). This is because they do not play enough loft and have a morbid fascination with having their drives run. Maximized carry distance is the key to long and accurate drives. The game is different these days, high launch and low spin is the mantra everyone should accept. Without seeing your swing and ball flight in person, it's tough to say which club will work out best for you. Go to a shop which will fit you on a launch monitor with a bunch of different shafts and lofts. That way you will be able to decide which one fits your swing the best. I will say that the Aldila NV is a great shaft, but has become a victim of it's own success. While it's a high quality shaft, it's extremely butt soft and tip stiff. That's a combo that's a good fit for players who have a very late wrist cock release (lag), fairly quick tempo, and a long swing arc. Very few amateur golfers (and most professionals) don't have the swing to fit the NV. Get fit, by someone who knows what they're doing. That's the key to a good fit in the driver.
