Yeah mate I played about 4-5 rounds and didn't take my score at all.My first one was 116,121,112 and so on.Here in the UK handicaps go up to 28.
I'm still a 28 and I'm averaging 104.So yes it doesn't really matter what you shoot at the moment there's so many shots you need to master, and I bet like me your wedge is killing you fat thin chunks, chipping miles past, miles short and 2ft stabs, putting from long range you end up 5-10 ft away, and an approach shot is a complete lottery.

This all comes in time and to save yourself some trouble start by using your limited time with the scoring clubs.Get confident mastering good wedge technique, chipping around the green and you can always putt at home on the floor, and this will permeate in all your ballstriking.

I tend to adhere to the rules when I'm trying to track my handicap, but I don't care if my friends take mulligans or don't finish putts or stuff like that... they're probably 20 or so handicaps. That said, I still go out and play a lot of rounsd where I just practice and hit lots of balls from various areas of the course. It's ok not to follow all the rules all the time :)

Just have fun

My friends and I usually play for money so we keep an eye on each other. We'll play a skins game and handicap it a bit for the guys who don't hit as long, give them a stroke on certain holes.

But all in all, playing for money will keep peoples scores honest. Those putts that just miss count for an extra stroke. Those 2 footers have to be made and they are missed at a greater frequency than most people think. Playing it as it lies can change things. Usually when stuck behind a tree someone will foot-wedge it out a bit and not count a stroke. Now it counts. Lost balls in the woods count as a penalty now.

the only thing we are kind of lax on is if someone hits a ball into a rough and there's a lot of little flowers or leaves or other things that make it hard to find and we want to keep pace and we all agree it's in that area then we'll allow a free drop just to keep the game moving forward. If we wanted to use 5 minutes and had spotters and caddy's we figure it would never get to that point. But sometimes those balls get hard to find when they get under a leaf or something.
