Hey, i was looking to get a new set of irons. possibly the acer high trajectory irons that got rated good.

My main concern was what shafts and stuff i should get? I was looking at getting them from Hireko golf, and they have online custom fitting and stuff, but when it gets to shafts, there are so many different brands and types and stuff i am going crazy trying to figure this out.

I am 24 years old, 5'5 125 pounds.
i went to golf galaxy and hit on the ball launch monitor and they claim that my swing speed was anywhere from 79-86 mph. usually it was around 82-84 mph.

Would I want steel shafts or graphite shafts? are steel more accurate? and which flex would i want from my shafts? light, regular, or stiff? i assume it's not stiff because of my slow swing speeds, but I don't know.

any help with club length, shaft suggestions and the like would be GREATLY appreciated. thank you! :)

You should go with regular flex steel shafts.
I was just checking these irons at Hireko today, and I found that these sets, after chosing the custom shaft and grip, they will cost around $300-$350. In all honesty, it's not worth it paying that much for a set of knock off clubs, with all respect to Hireko.

For that amount you can get a good set from a known brand. The Ben Hogan BH-5 for example are great irons for under $200 new. Several Adams golf iron sets will cost that much as well. Just checkout online stores and reputable ebay sellers. Just don't spend a lot of money on irons you will want to change in a year or so.

Hireko is good for buying grips, shafts, and other club making components, but clubs, I don't think so.

thanks.. my total didn't come out to that much... i just left the standard grip because my grip size is normal, and the shafts depending on which ones i pick don't add much, i just don't know if i should go steel or graphite and which company makes the best shaft? so many options

i need 4iron - pw. and the configuration i have now is 180.94

i have a 3 hybrid i would use, so i don't need a 3 iron in the set.

these were just one of the clubs i was looking at since i'm not the greatest and i'm on a budget. i'd like to spend UNDER 300 on clubs.

    • Ok, I'm trying to find a feel to hit a consistent ball flight (irons).  My current predicament.  1. I try to do the arms down stuff better, with the club feeling like it is way behind me more. It's just a cluster of results. Most of the time, I can't get any speed on the swing. If I get my arms down faster, I just throw them out.  2. I focus all my attention on turning better. Pushing off with my left leg and getting my right side through better. On the DTL view, this doesn't produce anywhere close where the hands and club should be. The result is usually ball first contact, lower ball flight, more centered contact.  At this point, I am going with option 2. Stop thinking about what the hands do. Just make a shorter backswing, keep it wide, turn through. Somehow, the club head finds the ball. My focus is so much on just making sure I turn, it's like, "Oh, that contact was better.... Oh, that bell flight looks playable." If not, I will just be practicing my entire summer.
    • Nope, they spent too much money. They are in over 28 million on the football roster and related NIL compensation at this point. Boosters associated with any Texas college football team has HUGE sway. The AD is between a rock and a hard place. They put a lot of money into Sorsby, at the chance of winning a NC this year. If you move on, you basically wasted a lot.  This is why Ohio State wants 3 QB's they feel can start. That is why the backups the past 5 years at some point transfer. Texas Tech has no backup near the quality of Sorsby. If they move on, they are screwed for 2026.
    • Maybe there's something I still don't understand about the situation. Wouldn't Texas Tech do itself a favor to move on from Sorsby at this point?
