I have a driver coming on Wednesday and am curious what to expect. I currently use a Slazenger 460 with 10.5* loft and a stiff Harrison Striper shaft. Just in the last 3 weeks, I have gotten consistent with a nice and long 260-275 yard drive(gps measured) and playing 4 full rounds per week. I used to hit 230yd balloon slices. Now since changing my grip and actually feeling the release of the club, I am hitting the driver, woods and hybrids straight and long.

I still think I am losing distance with the driver to a high trajectory. The ball takes off kinda high and then continues climbing until it stalls and drops without much roll out.

I tee the ball up with the center of the ball at the height of the top of the driver head and position the ball at the inside of my front heel.

The new driver is an Adams Insight BTY 4350 8.5* with a ProLaunch Red stiff shaft.

I have always used a 10.5* driver. What do you guys think will happen to my drive with this combination of driver and shaft change? I got a great deal on this driver which is one reason I bought it@ $40 on Ebay and the curiosity of the loft change.

Odyssey white Hot 2 ball cut down to 29"

Cobra ZL 9.5 driver
Adams Speedline 3W 13*
TourEdge Bazooka 20* hybrid
Powerbilt forged combo 3-PW
Ping Tour S 52 and 56 wedges

At that price, it's worth a shot!!! I hit the ball very low off the tee. Been thinking about trying an 11.5 degree and see what happens.

In my Nike SasQuatch Staff Bag:
Driver: Callaway FT-IQ 9.5 Stiff
Irons: Ping G5 4-P
Wedges: Vokey Spin Milled 56*, Cleveland bent to 49*
Putter: Scotty Cameron California Monterey
Ball: Srizon Z-Star Yellow
Range: SkyCaddie 2.5

What do you guys think will happen to my drive with this combination of driver and shaft change?

To keep it simple and quick... I'm guessing you're going to hit the ball much lower. You probably won't carry the ball as far as you do now but you'll likely get a little more roll out.

You are going to spin it less and hit it lower.

But you will also have A LOT more wayward tee shots due to the fact that as you go down in loft you lose a ton of forgiveness. I would honestly stick with the 10.5 and experiment with shaft changes before I went down to even a 9.5.

    • Day 121: did a bit of mirror work with my driver. Working on shortening the backswing.
    • Day 305 - Grip and backswing work. Full swings were bothering the hip a bit.
    • Day 56 - 2024-11-15 Light day. Lots of catch-up work. Checked the grip to make sure I wasn't compensating there, and did a little backswing work.
    • Day 197 (15 Nov 24) - Played in the Friday men’s group outing - blustery conditions in play (wind gusting 10-20; spotty pop up misting rain; temps in the mid 50’s), so it was a good day to work on course management.  Solid round of 83 (41/42) - 7 GIR, total 32 putts - included 10 pars (3 being up and downs), a dbl and triple bogie.
    • Have been on a mid to low 80’s roll of late - today was no different with an 83 (41 front / 42 back).   Played in the Friday men’s group outing - blustery conditions in play (wind gusting 10-20; spotty pop up misting rain; temps in the mid 50’s), so it was a good day to work on course management, delivering 7 GIR, total 32 putts - included 10 pars (3 being up and downs), a dbl and triple bogie.  Local course starting to get that winter feel - wet areas wetter, thin grass thinner, greens  trickier.
