Dude, I live exactly like you. I do the minimal work. But believe me, I still am regretting not having better grades. A 2.8 GPA ISN'T impressive at all, lol.

My GPA was around there. I did exceptionally well on my ACT though and sealed some deals for me. But still, it doesn't matter much down the short road. If you have to go to a lesser college for a year to get your grades up and then transfer, that isn't a big deal. If you take some time off and do whatever and graduate college late it isn't a big deal.

I TOTALY agree about purposely doing nothing. I would never advocate doing nothing. I just tend to find things I'd rather be doing and do those instead. Always be doing something. Never idle. I've though about moving to California and getting a certificate in grounds keeping and whatnot and working at a country club doing that kind of thing and golfing every day. Maybe get good enough to teach. But then that becomes a job I guess. I can promise those bunkers would be in tip-top shape every day.

College is a lot more fun and you tend to meet people interested in similar things as well as things you may have not known existed. You probably won't remember most of the people from high school or think of them again down the road. Your friends you never see again, sure.

Yeah I can't wait for college. should be a blast, but I'll still remember the great times i had in high school. It's four years you don't get back (I know bs cliche again. ahh i'm done for the night lol)

You won't miss HS, but dang does time fly. It feels like last year that i was awarded all district pitcher for baseball, and I graduated in 07. I'm a junior in college, and it just flew by. I still have 4 really close frinends from HS right now as well, and am looking at getting engaged to my HS sweetheart. Also, take all the dual credit classes you can. It's much cheaper, and then you can jack around in college. Take HS serious. All the people that wanted me to party and stuff have never made it to College, and they're at dead end jobs.

I'm of the opinion that you should take your work seriously. You don't have to get super hung-up on it, but blowing it off is something that you may regret years later. The work in HS is not that difficult, and it's often just a matter of putting in a little bit of extra effort. A lot of it can be boring, but you don't get out any more than you put in. The real learning experience often isn't the work, but the process-- it's a chance to learn some study and writing and thinking skills with relatively low risk.

A few people may decide they don't need to bother with school for their particular interests. I guess that's fine, but IMO you should do something constructive with the time you're not doing your homework. If you're not doing something constructive, you might as well do a little homework. But remember that the people who have successful and interesting careers later in life got there through an enormous amount of hard work learning to be the best at what they do. You really are laying the groundwork for your whole life.

You ought to be able to do this without missing social opportunities. As others have said quite well and more eloquently, screw all the "cool" or "uncool" shit. Be yourself, make friends, the more the better. You're almost surely never going to find yourself wishing 10 years down the road, "Gee, I wish I'd been more selective in choosing my friends."

Are you old enough to be on the internet? I kid.

man I remember my first day, yeah once your out of highschool you realize that popularity doesnt mean anything. Because most of the "popular" kids end up serving you food, or bartending or being a stripper. So just be a nice guy to everyone, bang all the cheer leaders, and golf.

I just can't dedicate myself to something as unfullfilling as corporate America. How do you get through it? I'm serious here. I'm really looking for advice on how people go to work at such a dull place and enjoy it.

Unfortunately I can't help you. I don't work in "corporate America."

Actually, my degree is in computer science as well. I enjoyed it quite a bit in school, but I don't know how happy I would be as a software engineer over the long-term. To be honest, "Office Space" scared me away. It might depend on where you work. I've never heard anything good about working for a company like Microsoft (as an entry-level programmer in the 21st century, I mean), but I know others who went to work for Google and Apple and love it. In general I think most happy people do as you mentioned: They just try to get a job that provides the money, benefits, and freedom to pursue what they really love to do (be with family, travel, play golf, etc.). Their happiness doesn't necessarily come from their work. And that might be true across the board, to even include professional athletes (just ask Boo Weekley). Tim

Well today was my first day of high school as a freshman. It was really fun, and I met some people, and got comfortable.

Congratulations, you've had one more good day of high school than I did in four years of attending.

The only thing wrong is that at lunch, literally nobody I know can sit with me. My friends have been spread out among 1st, 2nd, and 4th lunch, while I'm at 3rd. Most of the freshmen however behave like freshman, very immature and annoying, so making new friends will be hard if I can't find some cool friends.

Just immature and annoying? You got off easy then. I went to a white trash high school with plenty of idiots. While Jessica Simpson didn't attend my high school, she would have been about middle of the pack among the students, intelligence-wise.

So, the lunch issue is addressed below. And the general high school advice I have is to spend four years getting good at 2-3 things you want to do later in life. At least one of these should be a potential occupation (based on what type of classes you like, possibly). The others can be hobbies, or long-shot jobs, and so on.
P.S. The girls here are incredibly sexy, so that's a massive plus in the high school experience

And again, your high school experience is already a big step over mine. Despite my example above about Jessica Simpson, there were precious few attractive women at my high school.

Word of advice, although I know it's been said in this thread already: take the next four years to get very comfortable talking to girls. When I was your age, I had immense difficulty talking to girls. It wasn't until my first year of university that I got better at it.
Ask a girl to join you for lunch.

Yes! This is fantastic advice.

By the way, don't immediately ignore a girl with a boyfriend, unless he's someone to fear. But you don't want to go for a repeat right away, either - ask a different girl for lunch the next day.
Yeah I can't wait for college. should be a blast, but I'll still remember the great times i had in high school. It's four years you don't get back (I know bs cliche again. ahh i'm done for the night lol)

Yeah, well, I can't imagine what someone would have to offer me to take those four years again.

College will be excellent. Are you staying in So Cal?

Scarier than it seems. At my last corporate job, a co-worker of mine was actually contacted by HR about TPS reports.

Oh i will graduate... i failed chem, but my school only requires 2.5 science credits, so i already had that handled. i think i need a grand total of one english credit, a comp credit, and one mor elective to graduate. then in a little less than 12 months off to basic!

No, I am going to the University of Washington up in Seattle. Big change, but I love it up there too so hopefully it will work out.

My best advice is to associate with energetic folks who have something going for them....motivated types. Don't waste your time with people with no ambition or whose only concern is to simply "get by". Teenagers who are loosers and do stupid/dangerous stuff have a high probablity of being loosers the rest of their lives. Avoid them like the plague. Get involved with some athletics: football, basketball, golf, baseball, soccer, etc. The discipline that these sports provide can help provide a model for the rest of your life. My best grades were always during football season....as well as most fun socially. Jay-bird provided some great advice. Befriend some of those cute girls and chat with them....find out about them.

    • I have been debating getting a launch monitor of some sort, if only so I can re-figure my shot zones (I haven't actually mapped them in years) and also to practice distance wedges at home.  I have to see if this works with either my current setup, or what my setup would be if I move it to the garage.
    • Day 48, June 23.  After work today, I took 25 minutes in my practice room;  6-iron, same everything as yesterday except the time and count.
    • Well, this is interesting.  I think we discovered a few months ago that I haven't been following professional golf in a while (my confusion about Scotty's footwork confirmed that), so at least as I aim to follow a bit more I'll get something new to learn with all of you.  My very quick read of Erik's summary makes me think this new Challenger series fits somewhere between Korn Ferry and the Championship (not Champions, but I know I'm going to make that mistake a few times if I'm not careful!).   My recollection is that there were already second-tier events among the PGA Tour;  the Bob Hope didn't have the same quality of field as the event at Riviera (whose current name I forget, although now that I say that, I realize the Palm Springs event hasn't been called the Bob Hope in a few years either).   With the absence of the FedEx (if I'm reading that correctly), does that mean no more FedEx Cup at all? Hopefully I'll have time later in 2026 to sit down and see what we're in for in 2027, where one of my goals already is to follow more professional golf.
    • The highlights as I see them: Championship and Challenger Series The creation of the PGA Tour and the PGB Tour, in the words of Joel Dahmen a few years ago. They're calling them the Championship Series (23-24 events) and the Challenger Series (20+ events). Both run February to August. They feel this will achieve three things: increasing the consistency and quality of fields across the season creating a clear system for players to earn and retain status and delivering a more structured and competitive experience for fans and partners—all in an effort to strengthen meritocracy. Championship Series Structure and Eligibility The 23-24 events includes the Players, majors, season-ending events, and the Presidents Cup and Ryder Cup. These will be 72-hole events with a 36-hole cut to the top 65 and ties and purses of $20M+. 120 players without an alternate list. 90 players (roughly) from the previous year and 20 players promoted from the Challenger Series. Full eligibility will be finalized later this year. Sites (cities) to be finalized soon, but 10 of the 15 courses have already been determined. Postseason: includes retention and relegation and concludes with match play. The Tour Championship will also be played across a rotation of prestigious courses. Challenger Series Structure and Eligibility 20+ events. Running concurrently. Will feature players fighting their way back to the Championship Series or players graduating and on the upswing from the Korn Ferry Tour. Many of these events will be current PGA Tour courses. About 7 of the Challenger Series events will be during off weeks for the Championship Series with elevated purses and visibility. Purses of at least $4M, with cuts similar to the Champ series. 144 player fields. Competitive Fields for Both Series Players will be eligible for only one series at a time: Championship Series Players are not eligible for Challenger Series events. Championship Series members will have a known schedule with all events having the same eligibility. Players and Majors will have their own eligibility criteria. Championship Series players don't have to play all events. This begs the question about, say, the Canadian Open, and other "home-town" events that players might want to play, even if they're Challenger Series events. Will releases be granted? Promotion and Relegation At least 90 players will be retained in the Championship Series, and 20 players will be promoted from the Challenger Series each year. Battlefield promotion for two-time winners from the Challenger Series. Players relegated from the Championship Series will have a "last chance" opportunity to retain status, or will go to the Challenger Series. Criteria will be finalized before the start of the 2027 season. Points System New points system (not FedExCup points). Separate points systems for the Championship and Challenger Series. Elevated points in the Challenger Series for off-weeks on the Championship Series. More details tk. Elevated International Events in the Fall The fall schedule will include a limited series of elevated international events with top players from the Championship Series, with the intent to deliver in partnership with the DP World Tour as part of the Strategic Alliance. Last Chance Series The Tour will develop a “last chance” series of 4-6 events in the fall, with a limited number of spots on the Championship Series available for top finishers. Eligibility will include players relegated from the Championship Series, Challenger Series players, and other categories to be determined. Q-School continues, as do the Korn Ferry Tour and PGA Tour Latinoamerica. Also, Brian Rolapp is the new commissioner as of January 1, 2027.
