I currently have a Cleveland 56* RTG 588 wedge in my bag but am currently looking at Mizuno wedges to make the feel to my Mizuno MP-30 irons the same. I am wondering how big of a difference will two degrees of loft make in wedges?

I am looking at a 51* and 56* together or 53* and 58*. My Mizuno MP-30 is 47* of loft.

How hard is to hit a 58* from the fairway?

Not hard at all... easier than a 60* (for me, anyway). I find it easier to handle... less shanks, chunks, fluffed lobs that only go two feet.

No less an authority than Bob Vokey himself even stated: "The average player is better off with a 58-degree club," says Vokey. "You can do what you need with that, and it's easier to hit."

"I played like shit." -Greg Norman after the '96 Masters.

DBake,

How comfortable are you with a 3/4 pitching wedge, or making a full swing with a sand wedge? I ask this because with the 53 degree setup, you will have a six degree gap between your pitching wedge and sand wedge. You will need to have a shot to fit between those gaps. Also, if you're a long hitter, or play frequently on short courses, the 51 degree setup may benefit you well if you find yourself with several shots in the 120 to 80 yard distances. On paper, a 51 degree 55 degree setup would be the best in terms of yardage gaps, and with appropriate grinding, your 55 can open as wide or wider than a 60 degree lob wedge. Just some food for thought.

wedges are very sensistitve even 1 degree can make a difference.
