I also recommend a low cut shot for this situation... it stops sooner. It may sound strange to have an open club face and stance, but if you can keep your hands well ahead through impact and use your body to hit a "push cut" it is a great shot to have in the bag And I think it does work better if the ball is not moved back in your stance -- moving it back creates some timing issues for me. Think of it as a firm punch shot, and not wristy or handsy. Maybe a little wrist cock on the short backswing, but almost no release through impact. I actually use this shot for some distances well beyond 100 yards.

However, I would practice this on the range first. You really need the feel of the left hand being bowed back as you drag through the shot and finish low. Think of dragging the back of the left hand knuckles across a coffee table by your left leg. If the club turns over and there is any hook spin at all, the shot does not work (well, it would work for a shot that you want to run a lot, that is.)

I almost never move the ball back behind center.

I agree with iacus,

Although I haven't perfected his technique yet, I have been able to get the ball flight and spin he is describing with an open stance and ope club face. The ball back in your stance will lead to some roll out.
