Hi All! I'm new to these forums. I'd like to ask a few questions about my gear and get some advice. First, let me list what I've got, then I'll follow with a list of questions. Feel free to respond to any/all of them. Thanks!

Driver: Taylormade R7 Quad - Stiff Shaft
3 Wood: Taylormade R5 - Same Shaft as driver
Irons: Mizuno MP-60 (3-PW) .75 in long
Wedges: Titleist Vokey 52.08, 56.14, 60.08 (also 58.08 Spin Milled)
Putter: Odyssey #9

Also, I'm 23 and I swing hard. I have a tendency to slice the driver and push the irons to the right. I've been told that this is because I have too much backswing.

Ok, now the questions:

1. I bought the driver from a friend and I realized that all 4 of the weights are 2oz...This is way too light, but I'm not sure what weights I should put in and where, based on my hard swing and tendency to slice. Please advise. Also, any advice on where to find these weights at a good price would be helpful!

2. I also purchased the irons from a friend who is tall. I'm about 5'11 and average build. Should I have the irons cut down to standard length since they're .75 in long?

3. I currently have 4 Vokey wedges (listed above) and I'm not sure which ones to carry. I like the idea of the 52, 56, 60 but the 58 is a sweet club as well and its spin milled. Please advise on which wedges to carry.

you can get the weight for around 8 dollars on tgw.com.
for your second question, i think that you should cut the shaft down. i think this makes the shaft a little stiffer but if the shafts are regular i think you could handle a stiff with your irons since you have it in the driver.
for the wedges it up to you. i only play three: PW, 54 degree Vokey SM and 58 degree Vokey SM. if you don't feel that you need for 4 wedges than i would advise you to take out the 56 and 60 and play with PW, 52 & 56. this would leave you with 6 degree gaps which is not a lot. again it's entirely up to you. personally i would stick with you current set up.

OP where in Tampa are you located? I am in Tampa every other weekend and need to find a reliable playing partner. My friends always beg for me to come visit, but never have the time when Im actually in town. I stay with my GF about a mile from the Hard Rock casino and usually play summerfield, apollo beach, diamond hill, walden lakes...maybe we can get a round in sometime.

    • Day 457 - 2025-12-31 Stayed after some GEARS Hybrid stuff with my senior girls and got some work in. Also, kicked Tegan's butt at a chipping contest with a wedge that has a lousy toe profile.
    • Day 141 12-31 Reconnecting arm and club face work. Making sure left wrist is arched only on the downswing. Not doing full swings, im pausing at the top and will do a few rehearsals.  Hit a few real balls  after, and had some curve way left.
    • That was a good watch. When I started working on pelvis in the backswing. I thought, this sounds contradictory to those leg straightening threads on the site. Erik has already done a correction. Then the last lesson we went more down the route of feeling the right knee gains flex. It doesn’t, but the feeling keeps my knee position in a good range. Also, I just realized how much extra work my right hip needed to do to stabilize the body with the proper weight shift. Those glute and hip stabilizers got worked. 🤣 I wish this evolution in the golf instruction happened 20 years ago! 😭
    • I've been Playing Golf for: 40 yrs My current handicap index or average score is: 4.0 factor My typical ball flight is: Straight however sometimes slight draw. The shot I hate or the "miss" I'm trying to reduce/eliminate is: squirt to the right due to to much arm not enough turn.
