In another thread someone commented that Taylormade shafts are poor. I have recently bought modern clubs and have all taylormade shafts, both graphite and steel. Please, someone be blunt and explain to me what is wrong with my reg flex Burner shafts. Does Taylormade sell a shaft optimized for the Burner buyer or a shaft to shaft the Burner buyer?

For the vast majority of golfers, there is absolutely nothing wrong with the standard shafts manufacturers install in their clubs. There are some people on these type of sites who are VERY serious about their equipment, and will use aftermarket shafts to optimize ball flight and club performance. All of the major OEMs spend a ton of money researching what shafts optimize club performance for 95% of the golfing public, and they work fine for most of us.

Basically OEM shafts are the cheapest best quality they can glue on. There is nothing wrong with that as most players couldn't decern the difference regardles of what their online ego will tell you. You can do a lot worse than most OEm stock shafts, they don't use junk, but most are just lower to mid end stuff made by the same companies that make the best in the world, just repainted with their proprietary graphics. I wouldn't worry about it and I certainly would ask a bunch of equipment ho's what they think. Some of these guys think tour issue means something magical, when in fact all it really means is made specifically for someone better than they are. Have confidence in your purchase and trust what you got. That's more than half the battle of getting used to a new set.

I can speak to your '07 Burner Driver. While the '07 Burners are very popular (I have one, in the Draw version) and quite easy to hit well, their stock shaft was a 50g shaft. So by almost any standard, they were very light shafts. Easy to swing, but not so great for controlling your shot. So a lot of people would reshaft their '07 Burners. I just reshafted mine with a 65g UST Proforce V2, and it is a nice change. Sure, a lot still comes down to mechanics, but the added weight of the V2 and just being a better shaft, I have noticed a positive impact. Some people of course prefer a 75g shaft or up (which the Proforce has available as well).

Not sure about your woods and irons.
