I just got a copy of TGW.com in the mail & a Callaway is coming out with a new uPro. Here is a link to it:

What is strange is Callaway's site does not even show it.

I got the original uPro & I'm still waiting for them to add the scorecard feature.

That's the first I've heard of it. I'm in the same boat. I keep checking uPro's site for the scorecard update. I though it would be out by now. Perhaps the this is just a new aesthetic design. Seems odd that they would make major changes to the hardware considering the current version has features not even used yet (eg: voice activation).

I love my upro, worth every penny. We should be able to upgrade to the newer version by just syncing it online...right?

I just got the tgw also and saw the new upro go but I actually think it's a more basic version. I don't think it has all the upro options plus its 100 bones cheaper.

I have actually seen the new Callaway uPro GO in person and played around with it. The new design is sleeker and more appealing in my opinion. The old version looks like an old Ericsson Cell phone or something.

I am definitely looking to pick one of these up. I like the idea of being able to fly over the hole and move the yardage marker around.

I can't say if it has less features as I wasn't able to use it out on the course or anything. But the design is definitely more appealing to me.

I received my TGW Catalog as well. It's basically a stripped down version of the other one fot about $100 less. It looks like all the courses are preloaded. They have this "Go Mode" but not sure what that is. It does not have the fly over's or sat photos that the other one has.

For a $100 less, not sure if it's worth the cost. Especially since they're offering some deals for the full version. I do like the look though.

I just surfed around Callaway's upro website, it has a nice description of the GO, along with a comparison with original. I haven't seen the GO in person, but it seems instead of flyover mode and sat imagery, it has an enhanced view of the green, which looks pretty cool. But I've used the sat images to assess layups on unfamilar courses and it has saved me strokes, so that alone is worth the extra $$.

As a side note, I'm a bit miffed by lack of shot tracking and voice recognition. I received email from support back in early spring, and they said they were in final stages of testing.

My guess is that the entire GPS device market is assessing the impact of smart phone-based golf GPS programs and trying to figure out how they're going to continue to compete. Can't imagine it will be easy. Meanwhile, upro helped me realize a personal best 74 last week-end. LOVE IT!!!

Got an update from uPro product support, with respect to voice recognition, shot tracking and scorekeeping, indicates late '09 release of software updates for these features:

"When the uPro was originally designed, the hardware was designed to include all the physical requirements that were necessary for current and future planned features for the uPro. At this time, there are not any plans to upgrade the physical device, while the software will be upgraded as necessary. Optional software features and updates will be 100% software based including Voice Recognition, Shot Tracking, and Scorekeeping, due out Late 2009."

    • It may not have been block practice, though, is one of the main points here. You may have been serving and from the same place, but you were likely trying to do slightly different things. It seems that would only be blocked practice if you were trying to hit the same exact ball hit to you to the same exact place in the far court. I'm not sure that's as random as if the ball that you're given to hit is at different places, too, but again…
    • I played tennis in college. I thought block practice was great for serves because you were starting the point and  you could easily adjust where you wanted to place the ball based off the same motion. I equate those to tee balls. I despised block practice for groundstrokes once you reached a certain level and your fundamentals were good. To me, hitting a 100 crosscourt backhands in a row was silly because I would never do that in a match. I needed to randomize it by hitting some deep, some angled, all with different speeds and spins. I share that same thought about iron play. Because we seldom hit the same approach shots hole after hole, I prefer to practice irons randomly.
