Over the last couple of weeks my iron play has completely disappeared. I'm hitting my woods better than ever.....been over 80% on fairways lately, but every single iron I hit at the moment is toed. Every.....single.....one. Even teed shots on par 3s. The shots are online, so it doesn't seem to be a path issue, just 20+ yards short of my usual distances. Wedges are mostly OK, and the problem gets progressively worse the longer the iron gets. I'll try to get some swing video this weekend, but any suggestions would surely be welcome.

I would check the distance from the ball and arm positions, try 1/2 and 3/4pitch shots with all your irons and see how they feel hitting off of grass.

Occasionally this will happen in my game and for me it's usually a setup problem. What I do is start by going back to the basics. Set the club down behind the ball first, then position my feet and body to the club so I'm in a relaxed position and the correct distance from the ball.

The key is to relax and don't panic. If I hit the first couple shots of the day near the toe I can usually reel it in and adjust it by the third or fourth shot by just going back to the basics with my setup.

If you constantly think or believe your going to hit it on the toe, then there's a good chance you will. You gotta love this game, lol it can really mess with your head sometimes.

Good Luck!

I agree with both the above posts. I will also add that this happens to me also. Not necessarily hitting on the toe, but swinging good, just not making good contact. What I try and do is to choke down on the club a little and hit only 3/4 shots. If I am on the range I will put both feet together and just focus on rotating and hitting down through the ball. Usually the problem is a bad set up. Too far away from the ball or too open or closed. Once I am making better contact, I will go back to full shots and see if that took care of it.

I will judge my rounds much more by the quality of my best shots than the acceptability of my worse ones.

Just setup the ball near the heel/hosel. That's what i did. hahaha. Center contact everytime. Too bad it didn't cure hitting 6 inches behind the ball :(

Yep! I get that sometimes too. There might be 2 things you could try at the range.
1). If on your downswing you drop your back elbow down to your side, you might try to hold that elbow closer to your side at setup. In other words, you may setup with your elbow out away from your body, but on the downswing, you might be pulling it in, resulting in hitting on the toe.
2). You may not be fully extending your arms on the downswing. Try hitting a spot about 4" out in front and 1" outside the ball to get the feel of full extention.

Weight on the balls of your feet, hands under your chin at address and keep your head quiet.

Miss hits on the face are usually set-up issues or pivot issues (you may be swaying off the ball slightly).

Thats where I would start.

    • I have fought shoulder issues and seem to now have a pull/baby fade going on.  Not a great video, but are these numbers ok or should i try to get in to out.  I've realized this winter my concept of in to out was wrong in that what felt in to out was actually just the face being open to get it right.  The first one was rushed the second one is more typical.  Minor pull or if the numbers line up baby fade back to target.

    • I suppose Rory will indulge in a bit of guilty pleasure giving Bryson some of his own medicine. Saw a piece of Rory's interview on some documentary about last year's Masters where BDC was still trying to game/mess with him long after he had stopped being a factor. At least that was Rory's perspective. Dude's a huntn dog and a storyteller. I'm going to enjoy this one knowing the end even more so than last year. And yeah, I know it's only half way through but Im early celebrating this one.
