Y'all heard that Gatorade dumped the new drink, Tiger-Focus.

I think it was dumb for Gatorade to embark on that, and even dumber to decide to scrap it at this time.

We are seeing a whole new Tiger, with, ahem, abilities beyond the golf course.

Those abilities make Tiger Woods more marketable than he was as a golfer.

You know all those energy drinks and power drinks that have been marketed the last few years? Now you know what they are about, don't you?

For the benefit of the naive, they are mostly about sexual indurance and vigor. You plan on a hot date, you pick up a few of those bottles in the checkout line.

Well, that is precisely the market that Gatrade, with the help of Tiger, is now able to reach.

I mean, playing golf is expensive and time consuming and as the population increases, will be more and more a marginalized game, except on Wii and Xbox. Sex on the other hand, has several hundred million enthusiastic devotees in this country, with more coming along all the time.

Sex is a sport that needn't take up much room, and, for the most part, you play now and pay later.

Gatorade did a real dumb thing to launch their Tiger drink, and they really missed the boat not taking advantage of what has happened.

Considering the context, SQ, it might well be "indurance." But yes, it was a mistake.

There is a rumor going around that El Tigre (and we thought he was known as Tiger because of his activities on the golf course; ah, naivite) will be faced with the choice of losing his wife or giving up both golf and extramarital sex.

A sad choice, for Tiger to be asked to give up both things in which he excels. What would he be expected to do? Take up tiddlywinks? Bridge?

Some say that Tiger is only one example of the workings of a veritable industry servicing top athletes, and that we are only seeing the tip of the iceberg: http://deadspin.com/5416948/chaos-in...f-pro-athletes Caution; site not for children.
