OK... this has nothing to do with golf, but I know some of the guys on here are pretty tech savy... so here it is...

I am a new parent :) and being that my parents live in Michigan and don't get to see their new baby grandaughter all that often... I am buying a set of webcams for us for Christmas. I don't want to spend too much... I just want a decent one with a good mic... doesn't need to be ultra high resolution or anything, but not junk either. It seems like Microsoft VX line gets good reviews and so do some Hercules ones on Walmart's website... anyone have experience with these or another brand that they would suggest? Planning on using the webcams with Skype if that makes any difference. I have Windows Vista and I think my parents run XP Home... their desktop is a little on the older side and not great... mine is pretty new and well equiped.

Any help is much appreciated... even if it's just I have brand X and like it.

I use the VX5000 from MS for work. It does a nice job and the price in Amazon is very good ($37).

The one thing you will have to remember is that some of it performance will be based on the machine it is hooked up to as well as your network connection.

I bought a pair of Logitec cameras this summer when my girlfriend went to malasia for the navy for two weeks. I got them at Bestbuys's and we used Yahoo instant messenger. They worked and looked fine here in the USA but when she went around the world the image was not as clear but we figured it was the network over there, and the distance.

I ordered a Chicken and an Egg on the Internet, to find out which came first... I'll keep you posted!

This isn't an area you have to spend top-dollar on. I've yet to see a difference between the high priced ones and the medium priced ones (of any brand.) There is some junk at the bargain price level.

If you're not sure about one, got to Amazon and read the reviews on it. Best quick way to find out if something is expensive junk or a bargain.
