Hey Guys,

I'm going to have some time next tuesday to squeeze in a round. I'm from Missouri, but will be in California for the week for a trade show. I'd love to play an ocean view course for the experience, but don't want to pay $500 for Pebble (someday). I'm going to be in Anaheim - but can drive within reason (couldn't leave for the course though until around 11:30AM or so that day).

So, anyone have any suggestions? Anyone free to join me? :D

One of the best course to play is Coyote Hills in Fullerton. It is the only course ever desinged by Payne Stweart. Very close to where you will be and should be under $100.00

Probably the best and most popular course in Orange County has got to be Strawberry Farms. http://www.strawberryfarmsgolf.com/ Another great course in the area would be Black Gold. http://www.blackgoldgolf.com/kemper/...=200&page;=5391

PS: Pelican hill is the closest that I can think of and mid-day should take you 30 minutes-ish to get there while Trump is all the way in the South Bay and will take 90? minutes to get there.

There are very few ocean front courses in Orange County. Given you timeline I think Pelican Hill is your only choice.. should be able to get a twilight rate around $120? San Clemente Muni has some ocean views..but not an ocean front course. Ocean Front property in SoCal is wayyy to valuable to be used for golf courses.

I concur with others that Pelican Hill is probably your only real option if you want to see the ocean. Twilight rates right now are $135 and start at 12:30 pm, so it reasonable fits your timeline. Pelican was one of the first really upscale private courses built in SoCal, and they have upheld their service and quality standards to very high levels. Both north and south courses are delightful; I slightly prefer the north, but don't worry - if they can only get you on the south course you'll still have great golf and a lot of great views, especially on some of the holes that play right down along the ocean (12 and 13 are back to back par 3's with specatular views). Weather should be about ideal, around 70 or so, but a tip - it is an ocean side course and the temperature will get a bit chilly late afternoon as the sun drops lower, so plan accordingly. You should have a great time - wish I could join you!

I had been looking at Pelican Hill, so this just confirms it! Thanks so much everyone for your input. I'm a terrible golfer, but I love it. If I can find a course with great scenery, it makes it easier for me and those around me to tolerate my game. :D

He's right about the possible cooling in the afternoon here in SoCal. It can go from about 70-75 to about 45-50 between mid-afternoon and dusk on the coast at this time of year. Got caught underdressed at Torrey like that once - never again.

Based on this thread, looks like I'll have to try Pelican Hill or Coyote Hills myself sometime.
