After playing really badly for the past month, I decided that I was going to go out on my own today to play, just to work on my problems that I've been having without any pressure on me.

I started at 12:30, and they had the weekend small tournament going on, and had the #1 tee clogged up, so I decided to play the back 9 first, and then come through the front. The first couple holes were the same old thing, more slicing off the tee, coming up short on my irons and my wedges, and not putting well at all. I then ran into the back of a foursome, who had a lot of traffic ahead of them, so there was no use playing through. I started hitting 2 balls from each position, and going back to the basics from my last couple lessons. I will play good for a month after the lessons, and then go back to where I was until I take another one here lately. I hit some horrible shots, realized what I was doing wrong, dropped another ball, and hit that one nicely most of the time. I was relaxed, and for once didn't care about what I shot, and was just interested in fixing what I was doing wrong, and being more consistant.

By the end of the round, I had straightened up my drives by concentrating on what I had learned during my lessons. I was coming inside/out and teeing the ball up too far back in my stance. By the 18th hole, I had hit the last 4 fairways, and was extremely happy. My iron distances had come back, along with my typical slight draw. I was putting the ball too far forward in my stance, and while I was getting nice high flight, my distances were all screwy. Fixed all that throughout the round by simply slowing down, and doing what I was supposed to be doing from my lessons. I am still slicing my fairway woods and hybrids pretty badly though, so I have to get back to the instructor, because I couldn't figure out what I was doing wrong with them. At least it's consistant though.

All in all, a very productive day's practice out on the course. Much better than the driving range, that's for sure. I'm going to take about 4 days off to recoup, since I have a bad back, and have played 3 times this weekend, call my instructor and setup a time for Thursday to figure out my fairway woods and hybrids, and then go back out next Friday and see if I can apply what I learned and practiced. If I don't, I'm not going to worry about it, I'll do the same thing. Throw the scorecard away, and just practice on the course with a couple different balls instead of just hacking through a game.
