Annual Golf Guide disappointing

After a couple of weeks of teasing greater St. Louis golfers, the Post-Dispatch newspaper published its annual Golf Guide. Must say I'm underwhelmed.

I looked through the inserts twice, and couldn't find it. Then, I notices a spash of green on the back of the Sports section, and backed into the guide. It's pages 13-18 of the Sports section.

Had a nice full-page article on the new Highlands golf nine and driving range inside Forest Park. Highlands is a rebuild of the old Triple A Golf & Tennis Club - long autonomous from the city park. Now, it is partnering with the park's other 27 holes and will be home of the city's First Tee program.

Other than that, the guide had a map of the public courses in Bi-State area, and fee listings for the courses, and the schedule of upcoming amateur tournaments. The advertisements were sketchy, with a majority of the golf equipment shops no-shows.

In the past, it's been a fairly nice booklet or tabloid with coupons and articles on area golf trends. How have the golf guides been looking in other cities?
