Been working hard on my game for this season and I've been improving and making changes. The next change involves a basic: THE GRIP. I've been having a problem throwing at the ball with my right. Just for fun I switched from a interlocking to a overlapping grip and the feeling is wonderful. I feel like I can't throw anymore. Can't wait to look at it on tape my swing is definitely moving in the right direction. How many of you guys made the switch? To overlapping not Srixon.

Ive always interlocked, but with recent problems Ive been thinking about making a switch somewhere in my game (whether its grip or swing) but never had the confidence to change on a round! With reading your post, im gonna get on the range mora and see how it goes!!

I made the change from interlocking to overlapping awhile back. When I began playing, I was taught to grip the club by my father. The only way he EVER played was with an interlocking grip. I used that for a long while. Then, I had to turn my right hand over the top of the grip quite a bit to keep from slicing the ball (it looks real odd, but works for me)... when I made THAT change, the interlocking grip no longer worked for me. I tried a ten-finger/baseball grip for awhile, but found it to be odd because I WASN'T holding a baseball bat. It took me a bit to get used to the feel of the overlocking grip, but now I don't think I can switch back.

I had the same problem last year. I was pretty sure it was something other than my grip. I've played two rounds this year so far and threw away the interlocking grip after the first round. I had a friend video my swing a few times and concluded it was because my right hand was so far over the top on the grip it was keeping me from cocking my wrists and also giving me a very steep plane. Went to the range and worked on the overlapping and it felt so much better. I was able to flatten my swing out a bit, get rid of the chicken wing, and explode through the ball. I know I can't switch back to interlocking again and wouldn't want to.

I've switch from interlocking to overlapping 3 years ago. I can't use the interlock....ever. I even went to the 10 finger baseball grip with just my driver for 5 months and after fixing my faults, I'm back to overlapping on all my clubs except with the putter.
You have to use what makes you more comfortable and confident in what you are doing.

I switched from an interlock to an overlap shortly after highschool. At first the overlap didn't feel as secure but I think that helped me swing within myself. When making the change I also decreased my grip pressure. This made a world of difference in terms of feel. All of a sudden I could feel everything! It was nuts! Chances are that I'll never go back to an interlocking grip but I guess you never know.

The feel and the swinging inside myself are the two things I've noticed as well. Can't wait to get on the course with this to put it to the test during a round.

Overlapping grip has given me alot more control and consistency especially with the irons. With interlocking, I found myself with a weaker grip and fading irons all the time. I think most pro's promote overlapping, but it all comes down to whatever you're most comfortable with.

I think some grip changes are coming my way...soon.

I'm enjoying being able to play now but want to make some strides this year.

I need a few lessons and much range time to get this golf season started off right.

Looking at the wear on my golf gloves and my nagging occasional regripping during the transition tells me the grip may be where he starts.

Truthfully, I've known changes were needed but I was scared to try because it felt "odd". Stupid logic on my part.

I suspect he'll suggest left hand changes and then go from there.

Interlock vs. Overlap......I adopted the
interlock when I started playing after seeing Jack do it. I just assumed it was "the" way.

I use the interlocking grip, but a friend of mine says I can't draw the ball becuase my grip is too weak, I don't hit a draw or fade as a natural shot, just straight. I tried the overlapping but I can't, my right hand comes off the grip I don't know what I do haha!

Regards!

being a true beginner (I have only played a par3 9 hole course twice), I have found the overlapping grip alot more comfortable than the interlocking. My first lesson and round, I used the interlocking and just couldn't get used to it. The next time I used an overlapping grip and had an easier time getting the ball straight down the fairway. It has made this addicted and learning experience alot more fun. fortunately for me, I found this out very early.

    • A strong grip cups the wrist (lead) and then it wants to flatten through impact, something I used to be able to avoid to keep it from going left and protecting my forearm (the main premise of my set up). Longer the club, harder it is becoming. Either way, yes, I need to transition to gripping it open.
    • Why don't you grip it "open" so you can return your hand to the place where you're comfortable/not sore, but the ball won't go left? It's effectively weaker… without actually "being" weaker?
    • Day 47 - 2024-11-16 Light backswing work with about 3 or 4 rehearsals for every ball hit. Only about ten minutes while waiting for a potential member to show up (he was 25 minutes late). 😛
    • Idk but I would have to imagine that a putter that is aimed where you think it's aimed would be the most important aspect of a putter
