I think I need to take a couple weeks off....

Man, I've been there. I shot a 43 on league one night last year, my best 9 hole round ever and followed it up with a 56 and a 58 which cost me first in my division. Then I played like ass in the league tournament and the outing. I'm telling you, I was actually relieved when it was time to put the clubs away for the winter.

Slumps happen in all sports to all athletes of all skill levels. What I've found personally is that most of the time slumps are the result of your mind figuring something out that it's trying to teach your body how to do; your ingrained muscle memory is fighting it through, hence the slump. Almost without exception in tennis, martial arts, pool, and golf every time I've come out of a slump I've been able to play and compete at a higher level. Sometimes it’s just been a very small improvement, but sometimes it's like night and day and I take a big leap over what I was able to do before.

People say you have to play through a slump, I'd disagree, you have to practice your way out of a slump. As others have suggested, try to get in some quality practice time, even if it means skipping a few tee times. If you do go out and play, don't keep score and just let yourself enjoy the sport you obviously love. Good luck.

IMHO, you need a break......at least from playing.....sounds like you are all up in your head, while at the same time having issues with mechanics and focusing too much on your score.....as you suggested, take a couple of weeks away from playing.....every few days, go to the range, relax, and just hit some balls.....groove your swing, enjoy the ball flight, and just let it come back to you....

Also, work on your putting and chipping.....I always find that as my short game improves, I feel less pressure to hit perfect drives and approach shots because I know I can make par with an up and down......and less pressure usually means I hit the ball better....

I am sure everyone on this forum can relate to some sort of slump or "bad streak" throuhgout the years in playing this game. That being said, the ones who make it through are the ones who are able to control their emotions and work through the slump until they come out on the other end playing well again. Instead of being your own worst enemy (throwing clubs, taking it out on others), reflect on the areas that are struggling the most and practice them at the range for a while before you go out again. This game is to difficult and we aren't "good enough" to take it that seriously or to be that upset.

    • I think you're saying it's preposterous to think that the areas on this club are anything like what's shown here: 30mm toward the toe or heel loses only 5% distance? Highly, highly doubtful. So a guy who hits the ball there and normally hits the ball about 250… will hit it instead about 238. By missing the sweet spot by about 1.2 inches? Highly, highly doubtful. Heck, the high heel barely gets into the red, and orange is only "up to" 10%! @M2R, I've never heard of "Ask Golf Nut" but I'm dubious of his claims in the video and really, really dubious of what's on his site: "Why AskGolfNut Is the Most Trusted Data-Driven Golf Resource". Hmmmmmm.

    • So the question was posed today by some of my friends.  Is a pitch mark the same as a divot?  I thought NO, but they argued if your ball lands in another player's divot (made by club during a swing) this was the same as a pitch mark, i.e. the ball mark made when the ball lands  
    • Original definition use to or still is how far offline you hit it. It might be better to think of it as consistency in retaining favorable launch conditions to optimize distance.   That heat map showed a gigantic 0-3% loss in ball speed. That is absurd. The true 100% sweet spot is tiny for all clubs. Good luck telling the difference if the sweet spot is under 3% in a sizable area. Especially considering variation in launch angle, spin, and outdoor weather.
