When I was at the range yesterday using my pw, it just dawned on me that the golf club face is shaped very awkwardly. An obtuse triangle is what first came to mind, but then looking closer at it, it looks like a right angle triangle. Atleast the grooves are along the lines of a right angle triangle, with the edge cut off.

I think the above paragraph has confused me more :P

My question is, why does it have such an awkward shape, and where is the sweet spot, and what are the purposes of hitting the non-sweet spots?

If it helps to describe, can you stick to lets say the pw or 9i.

Also when you open the club face for a lob shot, where has the sweet spot changed to?

Any help is appriciated :D

This should show exactly on an iron where the sweetspot is for normal shots, not too sure if it changes when opening it up for say a lob/bunker shot.

Woters thanks !

That is a fantastic picture, shows me exactly what the sweet spot is, and shows me I was aiming at the wrong spot :( What do the numbers going outward signify?

It makes sense to think the sweet spot would change if the clubface is opened for a lob shot right?
