Well I lost my knockout competition yesterday against my friend who plays off a 5 handicap. After a mini comeback from 4 down, I had a 3.5ft putt to win the hole on the 16th. Bottled it horribly.
Anyways, it was really hot for May here in the UK yesterday, and my opponent put some excess stuff he had in his bag back in his car after 9 holes, including some balls for whatever reason. He had lost the balls he kept in his bag by the 12 hole. So i asked him what the ruling was if he didn't have any left in his bag. I am fairly sure that you can't restock on any equipment during a round, because I remember last year at the Masters when a player was taking a drop by a water hazard and the balls kept on rolling in the water. The Masters player only had 6 in his bag, and the commentator said that he would have problems if he lost them all. Fortunately, one of his last ones held on the the edge.
So back to the story. I asked him the ruling, and he said I would have the match. But he went to look in some bushes on the hole and found one. We carried on whilst he played with his found ball after he had lost all of his.
I may well be wrong here, but i just wanted to check. This was an event we paid money for, not just a muck around game - just so you don't think i am making too much of this.

So my question is: What was the ruling?
He is my friend i play most of my golf with, so I won't go to him next time I see him and tell him he lost the match if it does turn out he breached the rules.
I just would like to know if I should have mentioned something at the time.

Thanks

Hahahah... you bumped your own thread after only 14 minutes? Impatient much... ?

Anyway... as far as I've ever been told... unless the 'one ball' rule is in effect, it's perfectly within his rights to borrow or buy balls from a fellow playing competitor or, even as he had done, use a ball he found elsewhere on the course.

I could be wrong... but I don't think I am.
