I was contemplating tip tripping my '07 Burner driver. I split the fairway quite often with it but I think I could be getting a little more roll out and could probably reduce the height a little. I just think I should be hitting further than 260 yds on my best drives.

I have the stock Fuji ReAx in stiff, which as most of you know, has quite a bit of torque. Ideally, I should swap the shaft to probably something like a Matrix Ozik or Fubuki, but as an initial and much cheaper option, I was hoping to do a slight tip trim to stiffen things up and reduce torque a tad. What do you guys think? Terrible idea or worth a shot?

Why not give it a try. Tip it about 1/2" and add about 5g to the head to bring the swingweight back. Then play the driver at 44.5". Should work out well. If the shaft fit is really bad, only a shaft swap is going to do the trick but if it's close, tipping 1/2" might do the trick.

thanks man. How shall I tell the clubmaker to add weight? I just had some lighter weight shafts put in my irons and I ended up lead taping the 6-9 irons for now to bring the swingweight back in check. Also, driver is 46 inches stock, so it should play at 45.5 after 1/2 inch tip trip, right? And swing weight stock is a D5.

46"! My God! That is a big stick. Usually the builder will have a preferred method to add weight. My builder strongly prefers hot melt so that is what my woods get. Your builder may perfer a tip weight. Either way a few grams won't make much of a difference. If your builder can do a hot melt, I prefer that. The downside of that is if you go with a different shaft later, it may require a lighter head. Removing hot melt isn't really doable. In that case, just have your builder trim 3/4" of use a tip weight to bring the weight back up.
