Ok so I went to Pinehurst this past weekend for a mini golfing trip with my mother. We stayed at the Carolina Hotel and I could almost imagine seeing all of golf's greats walking through the halls it felt that nostalgic. The staff was amazing and I couldn't be more complementary of the service we received.

So we started out with #8. By far and away I enjoyed playing this course more than any of the others I played. I played very well for myself and came away with an 89. Pretty proud of myself. I've only broken 100 a handful of times. I have broken 90 once but on a much easier course. I believe number 8 had a rating of 133 from the blues. So I was extremely proud of myself. I decided to get lessons to get my swing in order before the trip and I truly believe that he shaved 20 strokes off each of my scores in just 3 lessons.

The next day was of course #2... And after starting with a par the front nine brought me back down to earth. But on the back 9 I par'd 6 of the 9 holes... unfortunately the other 3 were doubles but I still had a very respectable 96 on a course that many tour players say is extremely tough. And ended with 9 pars total on the day. Not to shabby if I do say so myself. Unfortunately the course was not in very good conditions just off the fairway as they are preparing it for the 2014 US Opens so there were a lot of bare dirt areas that were not ground under repair. We did get a forecaddy for #2.. not sure if it was totally worth it other than it's cart path only on #2 so it did save some time by him giving me yardages before I got out of the cart.

The final day was #4... This was the course demoralized me and broke my spirit. Maybe it was playing in 95 degree heat for 3 days or something but I had NO swing what so ever. I do believe that this was a much harder course than #2 for me as Mr. Fazio decided to place 188 pot bunkers through out the course... I made sure I played out of the majority of them. However as bad as my round was it netted me the only birdie of the weekend. I will say that of the 3 #4 was the most picturesque of the 3 we played... I would love to play it again as I'm sure I could do better than the 104 I shot for the day.

All in all I can't wait to go back.. especially as I get my swing more refined.

Sounds like a great weekend, I am truly jealous lol. great shooting the 89, I would say maybe you were starting to golfed out after three days? I do sometimes when I go to AZ every September, we play four out of five days, the last day is always my worst.

How awesome is #8! That course is ridiculously great. I love the little stretch of holes next to the lake, I think its 4, 5 and 6. So gorgeous.

    • Day 85 - 2026-03-17 30 minutes of putting work, 15 chipping. Getting reacquainted with the Scottsdale green and greenside terrain. Really freaking hot here.
    • Day 9 (17 Mar 26) - Worked with alignment today to work on getting properly lined up with target point using alignment rods.  Worked on getting takeaway parallel to alignment line.  Solid session.
    • Day 212 3-17 Flow work and arching. Hit some foam balls. Recorded
    • Im struggling to hit a 3 wood any distance. Im 67 now and used to use a 3 wood all the time. My swing speed with the 3 woods is between 80-84. I am only 5'5" tall. I currently have 4- 3 woods in my used club selection. I have an old Titliest 910FD, a Taylormade Sim2, a PXG gen 4 and a Ping G430. None of these can i hit more than 180 yards and often much shorter. My driver which is a Ping G430 I hit about 210-225. Heres the crazy thing, I carry a Taylormade Sim2- 7 wood that I hit 175-185. I carry an older titliest H1 Hybrid 23* that i hit 165-175. All yardages are with carry. When i hit both the Hybrid and the 7 wood they feel like very solid strikes yet I never feel like i hit any of these 3 woods solid. All of these clubs have regular shafts of different manufacturers. I would like to be able to hit a 3 wood 200 yards. Im thinking I need to start playing with shafts, Maybe even shorten them some. I have equipment to pull shafts and set swingweights and reglue. I have a bunch of reg flex old driver shafts that i could shorten. My driver, 7 wood and Hybrid are all D3 Swingweight. The 3 woods are D3 as well.  Where would you start? Thanks Rod
    • This was a great read from start to finish. Ive been watching the LAB putters for 3 or 4 years now. Ive never been a good putter and Ive worked at putting but i just dont seem to get better at it. I play at least 3 times a week with a 11.6 Hdcp and i have owned probably 20+ putters over my last 10 years. Ive even tried the broomstick putters which at first I thought helped but as time went on i missed just as many putts. For me it comes down to nerves which i struggle to control when putting. I always feel like i have someone leaning over me watching my every move when i putt. I had a friend I play with this fall go get fitted for a LAB and he came back all excited, he bought one and he was already a player that probably averages 32 putts a round. So i think I would say hes a good putter. I used his putter a few times and the feeling i get compared to my putter which right now is a Ping Vault 2.0 Piper and just before that an Evnroll ER5v and before that Spyder Ghost........anyway the feeling I notice was that i can take the putter back without it twisting some. At least thats the feeling i get. I dont know if i would be a better putter with a LAB putter but after this year i will know as I went and was fitted and have one on the way. I can only hope it makes a differnce. If not ive got plenty of putters to fall back on!  Rod
