Any tips on overcoming the mental block I am having? My warm up swing, the swing I hit balls with in the backyard into the net is fundamentally sound, and looks good on video. I am happy with it. When I get to the tee box or behind a ball in general on the course, it all goes out the window. Not a good hip rotation, not staying connected with arms consistently, etc.

Do you focus on the ball during actual swing?

Big difference between hitting balls into a net and on the course are very different. Hitting a ball into a net--your not hitting to a specific target, thus you will swing very relaxed. I would suggest practice by hitting balls at a range to specific targets--to replicate playing conditions. You will get in the habit of focusing/visualizing on a specific target before and during the swing. When my swing is at it's best, all I think about and visualize is the target during my swing. If my swing is off, I can key in on maybe two elements maximum during the swing (hip rotation/arms together) and I don't visualize the target as clearly.

    • Yea it doesn’t suck. I didn’t score well but most of it came down to short game and putting. I had 3 holes I can directly blame bad long game shots on. I’m just trying to hedge my bets. If I don’t make it as a professional golfer, I could be a fitness model as a backup plan.

    • Good episode on Skill versus Technique. I agree with definitions. It makes sense in my head that skill is part learned and part just genetics. Technique is mostly learned but also can be limited by your own skill in how well you develop motor patterns, which is a skill.  They are intertwined together to a point, but definitely not the same.
