I'm looking to add a wedge or 2 to my bag...my AW part of my iron set is 50...so should i get a 54 or 56 sand? would 50 to 56 be too big of a gap?

Also, some people strongly advocate the 60 while others say it's only really necessary for pros...Is it worth it to get a 60?

Lastly, what do you guys think about scratch wedges?

A 60 isn't necessary. If you have room in the bag then I would suggest filling it with a 60 as it is easier to hit than opening up SW to get out of tough spot.

the SW * is up to you and your distances.

I have not heard much of any +/- about scratch wedges.

one thing i find high handicapers doing WAY too muich is calculating and being way too analytical about their equipment.

don't worry about the distance...believe me when i say 2 degrees of loft isn't going to make a difference that you'll notice. When you consistently strike balls, most wedge shots are by feel anyway so distance really shouldn't be a factor when considering wedges.

My wedges go from 47* PW to 56* SW, then 60*...and i have all distances covered from 130 yards to 10yard flopshots.

with that said, I'd go with just a 56* and practice ball striking. But don't sit there scratching yoru head about 2 degree difference.

I actually love my 58* more than my 54*... Used it almost every time yesterday.

A 60* is great......if you can hit it well. Due to the extreme loft, the effective hitting area is considerably smaller, so its a more difficult club to hit consistently. It takes a lot of practice to be effective with a 60*.
If you already have a 50*, Id add a 54* and a 58*.
Scratch wedges are nice, but they are pricey.
