I am currently looking into purchasing a new set of irons. I am thinking about getting either the nike slingshots or the taylormade r7s. I am a new golfer with a HIGH handicap haha. I am looking for the most forgiveness in the clubs as possible. The r7s are on sale for $350 while the slingshots are $499.

I play both irons. The slingshot are an older model but the standard size head. The TM irons are R7 which would be less forgiving than the Reg R7 or R7 draws.

Personally for a new golfer I would opt for a used slingshot OSS set. Oss means the head is slightly larger than the original offering presenting a larger sweet spot.

My Son-In-Law has a set of these. He's a new golfer with swing issues. He shot a 86 on a very good course. I was there!!!! I was awesome.

Any way these can be had on ebay for less than $250. Excellent deal and very good clubs IMO

thanks danielreiberg. I am about to get a gift card from work for about 200 dollars. So I was thinking to get the gift card for golftown if I was going to go with the slingshots or sportchek if i wanted to go with r7s. Thanks for your input

Just saw Slingshots today at Golf Galaxy (steel shaft) for $399.

But I see you're in Vancouver and my advice is probably useless.

Well if you have an opinion on which clubs are better between the r7s and slingshots, I would love to hear it.

    • I’d go with the Titleist if you liked the look of the blades but were suffering with distance. They should be a little more forgiving than a full blade and still retain some workability. Also remember to consider the shafts each have as this will be a big contributor to how they feel. Clemsonfan is right though… get fit or spend a bit of time on a launch monitor 🤙
    • Day 28: 2026.01.30 Managed to make time for a few swings out back today. Need a proper bit of range time this weekend.
    • Day 30, 1/30.  Six minutes this morning hitting a few more range balls, indoors, off a mat, into the net.  Did this before leaving the house.

    • Hi All my New Year’s resolution was to start playing golf again. I’ve caught the bug and am really enjoying hitting balls at a couple of my local ranges.looking forward to getting back out on courses in the spring. Based in the UK and 38 years old, I’ve been playing since I was a kid. Best handicap I’ve held is 2 in my mid 20s. Over the past 10 years I’ve played once or twice a year, sometimes with friends or for work. Could shoot 4-5 over, but just as easily shoot 15-20 over. I’ve moved to South Wales and am very lucky to be near some world class links courses, which gives me even more motivation to get playing again! I will start looking for a local coach in my area when I have more time to invest, but I recalled scouring this forum a few years ago and finding some good tips and advice so wanted to give it a try to see if there were any glaring issues I could fix in the meantime!  A few swings below… one from 1st week Jan and one from today. I have fixed my P1 takeaway to my liking and am now working on what I see as pretty severe early extension & hip thrust. Also terrible hip rotation. I’d like confirmation that this is indeed a problem and and suggestions on a few good drills. Thanks for reading 🙂 I've been Playing Golf for: 30+ years My current handicap index or average score is: 10ish over My typical ball flight is: mid The shot I hate or the "miss" I'm trying to reduce/eliminate is: push right with irons, hooks and push with driver!  Videos:
