Can anyone give me suggestions on courses in/near Charleston, SC? We are going to play at least 4 rounds while we are there, one of which will be a Kiawah Island course. I don't want to play all my rounds on Kiawah because they are rather proud of their courses. I have played the Municipal, but I am looking for some feedback about Shadowmoss, the Wild Dunes courses, etc. Any suggestions?

Dunes West is a great course. And the links course at Wild Dunes is fantastic also.

Assuming you are coming down in the next 2-3 weeks...can't be said enough. It's HOT.

That is good and bad. Rates are a little lower, but it's still hot.

Wild Dunes Links are also proud of their course....but it is nice. I'm not a big fan of Wild Dunes harbor course...just my opinion

One step down (IMO) from Wild Dunes and Kiawah courses are:
--Rivertowne, Dunes West in East cooper area
--Crowfield in N. Chas. area
--Stono Ferry (my home courst) in West Ashley area

Two steps down (IMO)
--Charleston National adn Patriots Point in East cooper area
--Coosaw Creek in N. Chas. area
--Shadowmoss in West Ashley area

Word to the Wise----It is aerification time at many courses around here now. They SHOULD tell you when making tee-times, but I would ask.

In the bag:

Cleveland 4W 17º

Thanks for the input. I played 1 round at the Muni, 2 at Shadowmoss Plantation, and 2 at Dunes West. I tried to get a time at Stono Ferry, but they couldn't fit us in as our schedule allowed. Those are some great golf courses.

    • It isn't about maintaining focus 100% of the time when you are on the course. It is getting focus back for the shot at hand. Even PGA tour players will chat with their caddies or opponents about non-golf stuff, but then lock in. It is hard to try to constantly be 100% locked in for 4+ hours.  Totally normal thing to happen. You really only need a few moments of focus.  This is where a pre-shot routine helps. Maybe you need to add something that gets the focus back.  I just focus on every shot like a puzzle that needs solved. I like solving puzzle and problems. So, I try to be curious. Which then enhances focus. I think it lets me take each shot at hand. It lets me have the down time between shots. What I do is just get to the ball, and then start gathering information. Yardage, lie, wind, where is the pin at, etc.. Then I figure out what I want to do.  It's not like I can't shut off the thoughts and focus when I need to. I only need to focus for a few minutes before each shot.
