Took a few down-the line swings off my laptop webcam.. I understand it's not of the best quality and that my swing probably isn't 100% natural as I'm not striking the ground at impact, but it's the best I can do as there's too much glare on the webcam lens outdoors and the only place with room in the house is on hardwood.

Comments appreciated.. and I wrote that I'm an 18 handicap.. honestly I might be anywhere from a 15 to a 21- I usually shoot just a hair better than bogey golf but I play at relatively easy courses and don't have an official handicap.

EDIT: Also you can ignore the background noise.. it's my little sister watching the Disney Channel haha

It's really hard to analyze a practice swing. Things tend to change when people address the ball, actually put a move on it, and then make impact. If you're really interested in comments, I'd find a way to tape yourself hitting actual shots, and get some head-on angles so the guys who know more than me can comment on your impact position. You should note what your ball does on miss hits too.

From what you have here though, it looks like a nice swing. Again, hard to really comment on too much based on what you posted, but for some constructive critique, I'd say your back swing is too fast. Slowing that down and getting a little bit better tempo would probllby go a long way for you.

I can't really see your club at the top of your swing either (because of the dark paint on the wall in front of you), but to me it looks like your left wrist is cupped. That opens your clubface...do you push or slice it at all?

My usual misses are dead pulls off the tee and push-fades with the irons.

I'll try slowing my backswing down, now that you mention it I do seem to be rushing back a bit.

If you're pushing your irons, you're coming through open...a lot could be causing that though, so without seeing more I don't want to put ideas in your head. Like I said, looks like a nice swing. You look fairly young, so I'm sure with some instruction and if you put in the time, you'll be single digits soon. Get some more vids up if you can. There are a lot of guys you can learn from here.

Muggs,

I tried your advice of slowing down the backswing and it worked great! I went in my front yard and hit a few practice balls and I saw an immediate difference in how my swing felt and in my ball flight. Crossing my fingers and hoping it works the next time I hit the course!

I'm working on getting a video camera set up to get some live shots and a face-on angle. Stay tuned!

HA ha, you have the same problem that I have now. I had this thing woked out awile back but now it is creeping back in...Anyways both of us need to work on either speeding that right elbow further ahead on the downswing or keep it attach to the body on the backswing. Difference being I swing more inside out and you start your plane inside right away,so I draw and you push. The natural tendecy for that is I maintain my flex in the right elbow better and release later gives me more rotation of the forearm and power,and you rotate inside first and that drops your elbow faster and hence your pushes and you have a weaker hinge release .

You know I really don't know how to explain this well but listen carefully because I am sure this is what you are doing.you know like the golf plane is suppose to go inside to outside than come back in,basically what it is that the shoulder rotate inside on the backswing than goes outside than comes inside again. What you are doing is that you are turning inside on backswing, you skip the shoulder go outside part, and you just drop it directly inside.

You have nice rotation and tempo and a lot of good things in your swing already and if you just tuck in your elbow you should get rid of your pushes ,you can play with that swing and plane will look good to most people but it will just play a bit weaker.

@Sacm3bill

How do you know? haha

@KEEPITSIMPLE

I think I understand what you're saying.. I might hit the range today so I'll try it there... feels a little awkward but I'm guessing that's how it's "supposed" to feel at first.

After (hopefully) hitting the range and playing a late 18 today, I'll let you guys know how it's going and work on getting up a couple videos from DTL and face-on angles with the 7i and the Driver.

    • In the old days, pre-2020, "playing to your handicap" meant a net score about equal to the Course Rating.  that led to problems when people played against each other from different tees, people playing tees with a lower CR would generally shoot lower scores.  Course Handicaps were adjusted for each competition to make it even, usually lowering the course handicap for the "forward tee" players. So now if you "play to your handicap", the (68.4-72) term means your score will be even par, no matter which tees you play from.  No adjustment needed for people playing from different tees.  Look at your example, the guy shoots 82 every time, his Course Handicap of 10 gives him an even par net score every time.
