My iron shots are absolutely beautiful - nice high arc, relatively long (6I to 175 yds), very consistent and straight as an arrow. Only they are going right every shot (I'm a lefty). I feel like my swing mechanics are good, but I keep getting the same shot.

What are main causes for this?

BTW, this is definitely not a hook or a draw - the shots are very straight.

Thanks in advance!

When I pull my irons straight to the left (righty), it usually means that either the club face is closing at impact or I am coming over the top, or a combination of both.

If you are swinging in to out, then I would open the club face a little, but would probably guess you are coming more over the top then you realize.

When I pull my shots, I am not finishing my backswing and not stay behind the ball. You can try slowing down your backswing to complete the backswing and or lower your rear shoulder so that you stay behind the ball at impact.

What does it mean to "come over the top?"

Also, "lower your rear shoulder so that you stay behind the ball at impact" - I am doing that some, but maybe I need to overemphasize it?

Nevermind, I did some checking and I understand what coming over the top means. Typical amateur mistake.

Thanks, guys. I found some drills to work on.
