I just came across iGolf today and have the same question. Has anyone here used the iGolf, SkyCaddie or SureShot?

I'm also looking at the same options... the sureshot *seems* to have a much nicer screen & display, but there really don't seem to be that many courses in their database... a number of recently added ones here around NYC, but only two for all of Connecticut. Probably going to be a deal-breaker for me. FWIW, tgw has a sale going on that gets you about 10% off the sky caddie ones.

I bought the igolf and tried it out yesterday for the first time at bethpage. I was impressed with the accuracy. I was more surprised at how accurate the sprinkler heads were at bethpage... standing next to a sprinkler head showed only a 1-2 yeard difference from the gps....

Now i need to find a nice case for it....

Not sure if you have heard of GolfLogix by Garmin but it is very similar to the other GPS units like SkyCaddie, iGolf and Sureshot. I've had mine for over a week now and used on 3 different courses. I've landed more GIRs and shaved strokes. It has really helped me out.

I got the igolf GPS caddie a few weeks ago and I've found it to be great. Skycaddie may have a nicer screen display, but the igolf value is too hard to ignore. Specifically:
1. Once you download a course it's yours forever. We can even email each other the files (though I'm sure the igolf people would frown on that). From what I understand with skycaddie you have to renew your subscription annually to keep your courses.
2. Incredible ease of mapping a course on your own. I did this last weekend, and the people I was playing with didn't even realize that I was mapping the course during the round.
3. With the igolf subscription they will map a course a year for you that isn't already mapped.

I also like that it uses AA batteries- I carry a few rechargeables with me, and don't have to worry about losing power on the course.

so if you download the course, why do you have to map it?

Not every course is already mapped- you can go to

igolf to see the courses that are available with GPS. It's very easy to map a course yourself, complete with scorecard information. The course that I mapped is a 9-hole in Bedford, MA that is owned and operated by the US Air Force. It's off the beaten path, and not too many people know about it. I mapped it myself, as I figure I'll save my credit for them to map a course for me for an 18 hole course that I'll only play once a year.

Does the igolf GPS do a good job of telling you how far you're hitting the ball? I'd like to get good feedback on how far I'm hitting each club. Also, do you know if you can map driving range pins with it?

The igolf GPS has a very easy to use feature on determining how far you hit your shots. That's probably been the best feature for me as a new golfer in that I'm accurately seeing what I'm capable of with each club.

As far as mapping driving range pins, I don't see why you couldn't. You'd have to program it like a golf course, and be able to walk out to the pins to map it. You could either map each pin as a seperate hole, but it would be easier to use if you mapped the whole thing as one hole and then each pin as a custom point.

I have only used the skycaddie and it is pretty good. However, the accuracy is lacking. 5 yards off (which is can easily be) is a little too much IMO. I would recommend the Gold Laser Link device as it is extremely accurate and can point any spot on the course.

Here is my question. I already own a Garmin handheld GPS unit. I bought it a few years back and use it for hiking and off roading. Is there a way to load the golf software onto it. I hate to purchase an entire new piece of hardware when I know this unit would work. I have seen a similar unit of mine used for the golf and would really like to make this happen. Anyone know anything? Thanks

i did some more testing with the igolf - it is awesome. yesterday on a par 3 i had the unit o nmy belt clip - i was standing in the center of the green and it showed 1 yard... thats pretty good. I have been loving this thing. i created a new couese in my backyard. and mapped out 30, 50, 60 yard marks to practice my short game. im liking it...

many popular courses are pre-mapped, but some you have to do yourself. Also, I believe you can add points to the courses. There are only a few thousand courses in the USA alone.

I once played with a guy that had bought a Garmin GPS on ebay for $150. He added some golf specific software for $40-$50. I don't know enough about them to be sure what works but it would be nice to have both the golf function plus other mapping.

      First, you have some great choices in there.  Event Horizon remains a birdie movie for me.  It still finds its way onto the October options as Halloween approaches.  It fits well. I continue to forget that Arrival, when being referenced, is not the Charlie Sheen movie I saw in middle school. Lastly, what rating are you giving HG2?  Was it a par?  Bogey?  I gather from your review it didn't earn a hole in one on a par-4.  (I have yet to decide how I'm prioritizing that on my movie queue, and if I should even bother, so I'm looking forward to reviews here)

      I loved Arrival. Annihilation is a good one. Event Horizon is also one of my classic sci-fi favorites. And now for something completely different: Happy Gilmore 2. I watched HG1 as an adult, and it was alright, but probably would have been better if I watched it as a kid. HG2 had some good parts, but overall I wasn't a big fan. I knew there would be pros in the movie, but I imagined some cameos, not them being straight up actors through large parts of the movie. They're not actors and it showed. I could've done with a lot less of them and John Daly was maybe the best of the pros. The Maxi part was boring.

      Did I miss what your handicap was or how long you’ve been playing?  That Garmin chart is pretty useless.  Is the max number one of the numbers used to compute the average?  Without the chart don’t know how far you hit your clubs?  What do you hit from 150, ,160 etc…. Not looking at max and figuring the other numbers will probably have 10 yards of roll built in. It seems your launch and peak height are low.  I’d probably go Driver/5 wood/7 wood/ 5 iron
