I dont get the complaint about sky caddie and the yearly rate. even iff you play crappy golf balls it still cost less then 2dozan balls to get all the courses in your state. I looked at all the units and golflogix was the 2nd choice but now you can get the golflogix for under 200 bucks so I think it would have won.

Most people just don't like the idea of perpetual rental fees. It's nice to know that if you don't want to pay a subscription for whatever reason, your device will continue to work.

2 dozen crappy balls = $20.00ish... I pay $8.00 a dozen for refinished NXT Tours (and they look and play like new)

skygolf subscription = $30 minimum... plus $10 to add a state... here I live on the border of MI and OH, so I would need two states minimum... when I move I will be on the border of NC and SC so again same thng... might take vacation in third state... might as well pay the $50.00. SG 2.5.... $260 Neo... $150 only need to buy subscription for one year for iGolf... just download everyplace you need to play... but might pay another year if vacation comes up. Skygolf just seems as though they really try to nickel and dime you... and I like the idea of owning my courses forever. For many people the cost of skygolf just adds up... and iGolf is definately the most cost effective option, and it still does a great job. I bought the CaddieII... just before the SG2.5 came out... an so far I really like it. Glad I went with iGolf, although inteligreen is admitidly cool, although generally not necessary.

Big M your point is well taken. However I got the sg3 for just under 200 on ebay, and the main reason I did not want to go with the Igolf was they had almost no courses in my area mapped. Mabe you have more mapped in your area. The idea of having to map courses myself seems anoying, plus when I am playing a course for the first (mabe Only) time it becomes usless. SkyCaddie maps the courses by hand while most other places use sat photos to map them. Dont know if this makes a diffrence but just seems to me to be a less acurate way to do it.

But what every you choose arnt golf gadgets great.

P.S. Did you read the golf digest column on used golf balls? You may want to think twice.

I just got a subscription to GD (haven't got 1st issue yet)... before I only had one to GOLF. So I have not read it yet, can you sum it up? So far they have felt the same and distance seems proper.

as to mapped courses... I have literally downloaded over 30 courses and only one course I have wanted has not been mapped. They are supposed to be mapping it soon. And I downloaded courses for where I live now (Toledo), where I am moving (Charlotte), and where I am vacationing (Pine Needles / Sandhills area). I agree... if I had to map my own course all the time that would be rediculous, and I would go another direction. I don't mind adding some custom points (especially on courses I play more), but on many courses they are already added.

The point of the article was that no matter if it was sitting out for a short time or a long time all used golf balls showed some negative affects, for the most part referbished just means they painted them. And god forbid it should have been sitting in a watter hazard. But I will be honest 8 bucks a dozen is a good prize. If I was new to the game I would go for it. I dont know your skill level so it may or may not be worth it to you to have new.

When I started I lost a ton of balls used balls were awsome then, now I mabe lose 1 or 2 around so a dozen can last a while.

I should be getting my iGolf Caddie 2 in tomorrow. Very pumped, especially for the price (160).

Question regarding it: With a subscription I had heard that they will map one course for you, is this true? If so, has anybody done it, because I was wondering how long it takes for them to map it.

Has anyone tried or know about the differences between the Sky Caddie and the iGolf GPS yardage units? I know the iGolf is a lot cheaper.

Rick, I would save your pennies. With your index of 5 you should have the skill to be able to just tell what club you need where. I have played on numerous courses where it is hard to find yardage sticks but I still manage to pull out the right clubs. Just use your eyes and your feel, you can always trust those.. and you won't need to spend any money on a piece of electronic gear to help with your game.

my skill level is 10 cap and dropping... problem is, I CAN tell the difference between a $10-15 dozen ball and a $25-40 dozen ball... i.e. NXT Tours or Pro V's... I want to play a decent ball without spending the money (I guess you can't have the best of both worlds). Maybe when these run out I'll try the new Topflite Gamer or just stock up on whatever decent 3-piece I can find for a good price. I just hate the idea of playing (rockflites) even though everyone says they are a very decent ball for the price. I also don't loose too many balls 1-3 average (of course it depends how I'm playing), but still get scuff marks, etc.

Not use a GPS... that's no FUN, and they definately save time and frustration. Also, trust your eyes... I am a bowhunter (yardages are key) and I still like to have a yardage on the course... 125 and 135 can mean the difference in birdie and par. Why screw around when for $150 I can have a fun gadget that gives me great info.

I keep hearing the number of courses on iGolf is limited insome areas. How is it for the Puget Sound Area?

Thanks Big_M!

I now can spend hours looking up all the courses I will or want to play!

It looks to me like it has all the Puget Sound golf courses or atleast all the ones I play. I am not sure if it has Chambers Bay yet, but you got to think its on the up coming list, plus how many times can the avg. person play Chambers a year?

I checked the igolf site, looks good for around here. Chambers wasn't listed, but like you say..... Even as a Pierce County Resident its a 2-3 times a year outing for me.

I think the neo looks like a good option to get for my wife. I won't have to answer the "how far to that trap or whatever" question. $150 seems reasonable.

I received the Skycaddie SG5 for a gift back in Nov. and think it's awesome. I really don't mind the subsricption fee. The only problem is my friends are always asking me how far their shot is. The color screen is really cool and it tells how far to front and back of hazards, etc. You can adjust the cursor on the green to adjust for pin placement. I think it speeds up play too. Just walk up to your ball, look at the yardage, pick a club and shoot. No looking for sprinkler heads or pacing off yardage.

argh...

My neo hasn't arrived yet, but I wanted to get a head start by installing the software and downloading courses so I would be ready to plug the device in and sync them up upon arrival. So I go to igolf.com and pay for a year subscription, and start to configure my account - but they won't let me complete registration until I have the serial number for my neo

grrrr. I'm such an impatient person.

I'm a mac user, so I'm going to have to run the software in Parallels - that's a bit of a bummer... but oh well.

Has anyone mapped their own courses with an igolf gps? Is it very difficult?

Is it possible to edit downloaded courses in case their distances are off?

I was just on the igolf website and tried to search a few courses in Canada but nothing came up. Anyone know if they map public courses before private courses?

    • Depends on how short you were coming up on these shots. A bit more wind? Also, maybe you were swinging at 2-3 mph slower the next day.  I think the biggest thing is not adjusting. Like making assuming your stock shot is not enough and taking 1 club up. Not sure what type of adjustments you were making in your decision making.
    • No one should measure a joint mobility away from that joint. If you go to physical therapy, they are not measuring your knee mobility based on your midline. It is based at the joint. Shoulder mobility should be measured in reference to the shoulder joint.
    • He's using a driver swing, while I used the iron swing. Bryson goes from about 65° B to 15° B, hence the 50°. If you bend your right elbow, you're going to pull your hands across your chest some. Conversely, if you abduct your right arm and hold onto a grip with your left arm, you can see how extending the right elbow as we do in the golf swing during the downswing will "pull" the right shoulder/humerus forward (adducting it, as going from 65° to 15° of abduction is). Even people who pull their right shoulder WAY too far around them eventually get it "back in front" when their right arm/elbow extends. So, such a motion shows up as shoulder adduction even though the movement that causes it is just widening the trail elbow. The left hand on the grip almost "pulls" the hands forward as the left arm can't stretch much (there's some shoulder protraction, but that's almost maxed out at P4). Oh, I downloaded it and watched it (and commented there) before he blocked me. It's what led to him posting the comment in the "update" above. 😄  Single shoulder range of 75°, and that's going out well into the follow-through. 50° Max range up to impact. Manavian's video is bad. He keeps saying "midline" which is just a horrible way to look at it. He also kept saying that the club was moving that amount — also wrong. Adding left and right together is really freaking dumb. Another golf instructor said "That's like saying the player has 100 degrees of knee bend (adding left knee bend to right knee bend) 🤦‍♂️" (similar to what the biomechanist said about squatting). Also, see my post above about elbow bend. That's why Plummer’s alignment stick demo is so intellectually dishonest. A golfer can't get anywhere near that position on the left with his left hand on the alignment stick (quoted below).
    • That makes no sense at all.  so, I watched that Instagram. Here is a summary...  Bryson.... Address: Trail Shoulder 0 degrees adduction. P4: Trail Shoulder 65-deg abduction. Impact: Right shoulder 15-deg abduction. P9: 10 degrees adduction. Rory... Address: Trail Shoulder 16 degrees adduction. P4: Trail Shoulder 26 degrees abduction. Impact: Right shoulder 0 degrees abduction.  P9: 18 degrees of adduction.  DJ... Address: Trail Shoulder 4 degrees adduction. P4: Trail Shoulder 42 degrees abduction. Impact: Right shoulder 2 degrees abduction.  P9: 15 degrees of adduction.  Their point is that arm doesn't stay on the trail side. That the arms have to get across the chest from P4 to P9. I mean they do. What matters is the rate of which it happens relative to the position of the swing. The trail shoulder at P9 is not abducted a lot. The range of that total abduction movement is like 40 to 70 degrees. Bryson might be an outlier. Rory might be an outlier as well.  A couple of points.  1. None of them had any adduction at impact. So, this tells me the trail arms stays on the trail side of the body at impact. Is it moving towards lead shoulder, yes. It doesn't happen till post impact. The right side of the body is moving towards the target, so the arms don't have to as much as people think.  2. Trail shoulder adduction from Impact to P9 is 18 to 25 degrees.  3. P9 adduction of the trail shoulder is only about 2 to 12 degrees more adducted than at address. The arms/hands stay in front of the chest a long-time post impact. If Rory, from his address position just rotated his body towards the target and raised up his arms so he is at P9. He basically didn't have to move his trail arm further across his chest than where he started at address. Visualize that for a bit. I bet for people who tend to stall and drag their arms across their body to hit the ball, that would emphasize how much the arms stay in front of the body and how much you have to turn.
    • Do you know how Manavian is measuring his shoulder adduction-abduction that purports to demonstrate 50 degrees or motion in Bryson's downswing? I know the broader biomechanics research/scientific literature on this suggests shoulder adduction-abduction is only a modest contributor of force generation in the downswing, so I'm definitely not convinced by anything he's arguing, I'm just curious how different people can be claiming to use ostensibly the same "data" to tell a much different story.
