Ok I just got serious about golf 2-3yrs ago and my question is are my Taylormade R7s that I bought when I started good irons for me to be using. They are stock shafts and ive been told theses really are not good irons or shafts. Was this just a ploy by the salesmen to get me to buy new irons or are these clubs or shafts really not good?

Irons - Taylormade R7s 4-GWWedges - Cleveland CG12s Black pearl 54*/12* & 58*/8*Putter - Rife ArubaBack-ups - Karsten Anser / Odyssey White Ice #9Ball - Taylormade Burner TP & LDP...

As long as the length, lie and shaft flex fits you, those irons are absolutely adequate. They are by no means outdated, and are capable irons for a variety of players.

In the Bag: TaylorMade R11 TP - TaylorMade R7 TP TS - Cleveland Halo - TM TP 2009 3-PW - Vokey SM 52 - Vokey SM 60 - Rife Barbados CS - ProV1x

I have stiff shafts in them and they feel alittle whippy but nothing I cant control. The salesman at golfsmith just told me the R7s are bad clubs because they were cheap cast heads and the shafts are crap. I considered reshafting but was told its not worth it in these clubs..

He's trying to sell you a set.

As someone else pointed out, if they fit you, they are perfectly fine. Kenny Perry did pretty well on tour with r7 irons, so I can't see how they are crappy.

I wouldn't trust a thing that salesman says.

I have been gaming the R7's for three seasons now. I love them. I have the stock shaft - and yes it's a little whippy. But overall I find them very forgiving irons and I find my distance is pretty consistent.

The shaft on my 6I was bent, so I decided to try DGS300 on it. I pick it up from Golfsmith tomorrow, and will try it out on the range/course this weekend. If that goes well, I may replace all the shafts with DG's. I'm debating getting a new set, but I really do like the heads.

What's in my Titleist Lightweight Cart Bag that sits on my Clic Gear 3.0 Push Cart:
Driver TaylorMade Tour Burner 10.5° Fujikura SuperFast Stiff
3W TaylorMade Burner 15° TM REAX Stiff
Hybrid Cobra Baffler Rail H 19° Fujikura Motore Stiff
Irons TaylorMade  R7 3-PWWedges Cleveland CG14 52°.10 and...

Just to echo what the others have said, R7s are totally viable and solid irons, and that salesman is talking out of his arse. The steel shafts in the R7s are a bit light at 90g, but play fine. Just like I see a ton of people on my course with old Ping irons, or Callaway Hawkeye or X-14 or old Big Bertha irons, and they play just fine as well. Are you in NJ? Which Golfsmith store?

Yeah, I go to that one occasionally. They have some clowns working there, but the manager is actually pretty good if I recall. They usually have a good amount of clubs to demo though. I wish I could recommend the store on Rte 10 in Livingston, but I don't think it is much better for CS.
