I got a chance to play 18 holes on Wednesday at what has become my "home" course as of late. It has dried up a lot here this week, and it was in the mid-60s with little wind when I played.

I shot an 87 (41 on the front, 46 on the back). It should have been better, but I fell apart with a pair of eights on both par-5 finishing holes.

Friday I went to the range to work on my ball striking. I'm doing a better job of making solid contact with the ball, but I am constantly fighting an urge to flip the club at impact. While it was windy Friday, I was having lots of problems getting distance out of my irons.

I'm pretty sure the root of my problem is coming back and through at too steep of an angle. The only way I can get good contact is too flip the wrists like that. I'm going to focus on taking a flatter plane to the ball the next time I go out.

    • I assume you are posting 15 or 16 holes and letting the USGA algorithm insert projected scores for the missing holes. How is that going? Are the projected scores reasonable? I have yet to do this.
    • You're right. I haven't really had an issue with this before, but it's definitely worth closing the legs a bit to see what happens. I've had 2 of these and never had this problem before. About 5 years of use between the 2. It's really odd. Yeah, I've always had a bit of inconsistency and misreads, but this is a new level. I did a baseline session last night, and all my of stack speeds had decreased by roughly 5-10 mph (with me throwing out the obvious garbage readings). Weirdly, the driver speed actually seemed to be right where I expected it. I guess maybe it's having trouble with the smaller head of the stack vs. a driver? Whatever it is, I think it's time for me to go with the stack radar.
    • @DeadManI used to use the Swing Speed radar and, in hindsight, it seems very unreliable.  As @iacassaid, it's prone to misplacement, and I'd sometimes get wildly different speeds from swing-to-swing: like a 103mph, followed by 118mph, then a 102mph, then a 114mph.  I didn't know any better at the time and thought that was normal.  I've since upgraded radars and the new speeds seem much more accurate/consistent. Also, Mike Carroll (FFG) used to have the SSR and he now calls it a 'random number generator'.
    • I have it. Works good. As all things electronics, there are analog elements that can 'weaken' like the microwave signal emitting/receiving or the contact between it and conversion module, etc. Might be time for a new one.     P.S. I've had it for a few years. Other than replacing the battery haven't had any periods of wild reads.
