Went to my home course for a first real chance to play these irons and wedges. The starter, my buddy, gave me a solo tee time behind a foursome. That way I could play 2 or 3 balls if needed. It worked great. On the first par 3, it only took me 2 shots to find the right club to land the green. My problem was that I was landing the ball on the back of the green and rolling it off. I was hitting my approaches too well, if that can be said.

Pretty much all of my iron shots were long, left, or both. But I did manage to get a couple right on the money, like a uphill 168 yard 4 iron that rested a foot from it's ball mark, or a 48 yard SW that sat close enough to look in the cup.

For the most part, I think the ball traveling left is mostly due to my injury still recovering. As my left ankle loosens and strenghthens, my hips will be freed up.

The extra distance is a welcome problem. For irons 4-8, I've gone down a club, so my 7 iron is hitting the ball 162, roughly what my old 6 iron did. For 9-wedges, I now have 5 clubs to choose from (9, PW, SW, 56, 60), which is giving me a truck-load more time to use the same swing.

I have to admit, the ball control of these irons is on a level I have never known. Even if I miss hit, the ball goes 85% of the distance and dead straight. My divits have gone from the size of bassett ear to a lab ear.

I shot a 92.

In my bag:

One for slicing
One for hooking
One for knocking it in the cup
