I'm pretty sure I've been playing an overly weak grip. I've been using the same grip for about a year and half based on some quick instruction by a very good player. I think I misinterpreted it somewhat though and I believe it's contributed to my slice (or mega hook).

I went to the range today to hit some balls and nearly all my shots are a slight fade or slice. This is with irons and driver. That or I hook the shit out of it because I'm overcompensating for the slice. The ball always starts straight and fades right. It almost never starts left, so that led me to believe that I was leaving the face open on a straight shot. I actually hit a few shots by aiming left and just playing the fade. However, I don't want to go that route, I want to hit a straight shot or a draw.

I tried a few different things, but nothing really worked out. I ended up just making things worse and really don't want to mess with what feels like a good swing. I'm not coming over the top and exaggerating an in to out swing path just put it further right. The worst part of it all is my ball striking is getting better and better. Which is frustrating because if it wasn't cutting I'd be very happy with my game.

So, I came home to do some homework. I was reading some articles on slicing and I revisited my grip. I checked a few videos and diagrams and realized my grip is too weak. Which, just happens to be a cause of an open clubface at impact. I wish the range was open now, because this makes a lot of sense. I thought about strengthening my grip before, but I didn't want to put a bandaid on my swing to fix it. Little did I know that it was weak all along. I can't wait to try this grip adjustment out.
