Well, I sure as hell wasn't planning on playing golf today... It was steadily raining the entire day and chilly, but we hitched up our trousers and headed out for the hour drive down to Tall Wood Country Club.

We lost, again, but this one stung a little bit more than the rest.

I played bogey-par straight up for seven holes, and everything was inconsistent. Hit some good drives, some bad drives, some good approaches, some bad approaches, same with the putts. The only thing that was consistent was my consistently poor chipping... No up and downs to speak of.

With two holes to play I needed two pars to shoot a 39. I left myself about 180 yards to the pin in the rough. There was a large pond hugging the edge of an elevated green, with some leeway on the right side. I decided to be a stupid tough guy and hit a 3 iron straight towards the pin instead of fading it from the right to left. I got a little TEENY bit underneath it and plunked it about two feet short of the bank... Ended up finishing the hole with a triple bogey, parred the last, and finished with a 42.

My opponent finished with a 39, so if I didn't make that stupid decision, we would have at least tied...

So in the end, we ended up losing by 3 strokes. If I hadn't make such a terrible decision, we would have possibly tied the entire match... I personally hold full responsibility for this loss on my shoulders... Tough one to swallow.

    • Day 6: Worked on my putting stroke by hitting putts using only my right hand.
    • I've got pretty big hands but I've also felt the challenge of ensuring the grip is in the fingers resulting in a not on purpose stronger grip. I've been making some swing changes that was resulting in the natural feeling at impact being a closed face. My grip has always been fairly strong. Not trying to sound like an asshole or anything, but the answer for me at least was just to start taking the grip from a weaker starting point! I have a pretty ingrained hand and wrist setup when I take my grip. I just started turning the club to have an open face when I start my getting the grip in the pinky routine. Has been working nicely. Lets me have the grip in my fingers and achieve a more neutral grip.
    • @dennyjonesand I are planning to stay in the Poland, OH area Friday night.  If any want to get together for dinner and/or drinks let us know. We are not sure exactly where we will stay or what time we will get there but if we can hook up with any of you it would be fun.
    • Yes, this was a competition for local golf professionals, so I knew he was at minimum a pretty competent player.  I also asked what kind of shot he needed to play, if he had wanted to go steeply down it could have altered my thinking.  But he needed a pretty level angle of attack to get the ball up, and have it stop near the hole.  Given those factors, and the depth of the grate below the ball, there really was no possibility that the grate would interfere with his swing.
