48/48 for 96 today.

4/14 FIR
2/18 GIR
34 Putts
Par 3s 3over
Par 5s 3over

With the exception of last week - which I was so depressed about I couldn't even write about it - I feel like I'm getting better. My last 5 differentials were 21.3, 23.8, 22.8, 26.8, and 24.7. All good enough for scores counted towards my index. I'm definitely getting better off the tee. I only hit 4 fairways, but a lot of my misses were just in the first cut of rough and I still had a good look. I only had a couple of severe mishits today too, which was really encouraging. I had a couple of fat shots too but for the most part I felt like I was making solid contact for most of the round. One of the biggest problems I was having was aim with my irons and distance. On all the par 3s except one, I hit good shots but I either aimed poorly or came up short (once due to hitting it fat).

I was kind of playing with a couple of strategies in mind: 1) play the course 3 holes at a time and, 2) play the par 3s and 5s even. The first strategy worked well and I think really helped me keep my focus. Especially when I broke down a bit on 9 and the beginning of ten. I refocused on just playing 3 at a time and it got me back into a good rhythm. Playing the 3s and 5s even didn't work out so good this time. I was even on the 5s on the front, and 2 over on the 3s. For the back though, I was 3 over for the 5s and 1 over on the 3s. I just was having a really hard time hitting any greens today. AND, I kept making dumb mistakes. For example, on the par 5 16th, I hit probably my best drive of the day and am laying in the middle of the fairway. It's 212 to the front of the green so I take my 4 hybrid and hit a great shot, only problem is I hook it about 40 yards into the adjacent fairway. It's really not that bad as I'm left with about 50yards, pin high with no obstructions. What do I do? I hit it fat about 1/2 way there. Then I leave it short after rushing my next shot out of frustration. Finally I'm on the green in 5 about 8 feet away. What could have been an eagle, or a birdie opportunity is now hoping for a bogey. I lip the putt out and settle for a double bogey. I think it's play like this, more than anything else that is keeping me from getting better. Inconsistency and poor decision making from 100 yards in...

Until next time.

    • Day 313 - I played 18 today. First and last holes were ugly, but I actually played pretty well. Driver was great, irons were alright, and the short game was better than average.
    • Day 205 (23 Nov 24) - Worked with the alignment rod and 7i  in reference to ball position in relation to lead foot on full iron shots, noticed an increase in thinned shots last couple of rounds - better contact with the balls (hard foam) during the drill/swing rehearsals.
    • Have you gone to a fitting? A good fitting will not only give you a clubhead but a shaft, etc. that will suit you.
    • It's not like the Nike Vapor Pro are exactly a highly sought set of irons.
    • Last night I was putting my Nike Vapor Pro Irons back in my bag.  I had my sons i500’s in there the last couple months after we all went to Top Golf .  I picked up the Nike’s this past spring and they are like new.  I feel guilty using them… I have other irons that aren’t valuable that I could use instead.
