Played 9 after work today. A range session and a half ago I figured that I was swinging too hard and getting way too tense in my back swing. I had a partial range session before it rained yesterday and felt great hitting iron shots. Super pure contact. Here's how the day went.

HOLE 1, Par 5: Made solid contact with my drive, but hit a pull slice. Landed it in the middle of the fairway, but the ball flight isn't what I want. It was a little shorter than I'd like and I had about 225 or so to the green. The shot was uphill slightly, so I pulled my 3 wood. I struck a good shot and missed the green left. The pin was at the back and I had a bit of green to carry so I pulled my GW to try and run it up. It didn't run and popped up landed the last part of the green and rolled off the fringe by a foot. I had a pretty severe downhill shot and putted the ball out. I thought it was perfect as it barely rolled down the green. I had 7 feet left and sunk the putt for par.

HOLE 2, Par 3: I struck a good 7 iron and landed the right side of the green. It trickled down some, but still left me with a 15 footer. I swung so easy and smooth here. It's like I don't put any effort into the swing until the last second. I just missed the putt here. it slid by the hole right by 2 inches. Made my 3 footer for par.

HOLE 3, Par 5: Hit my 7 iron off the tee. Pured it. It went more right then I want and didn't roll down to the fairway. I hit my 4 hybrid for my second shot. Since I had a side hill above my feet shot, I had to choke down. I hit a straight shot, but it didn't seem to have the distance I want. My shot ended up 5 yds past the rough. The mega long rough. I had 30 yds left and put too much on it and it landed at the back of the green. The pin was at the opposite end of the green and this green is like a turtle shell. I hit a good putt, but still ended up 6 feet short. Barely missed the putt and tapped in for bogey.

HOLE 4, Par 4: Hit another pull slice here. ugh. In the middle of the fairway again though. Soooooo can't be too mad...right? I had an 8 iron left and went for the pin, which was very left, and missed the green left. I hit my chip a little too hard (actually way too hard) and had 40 feet for par. I didn't put enough on it and still had 8 feet left. My bogey went in the cup, rolled around, and shot out. Tap for a double. Lame.

HOLE 5, Par 4: Hit ANOTHER pull slice. This time it was much less severe and could have passed for a fade . I hit my drive about 280 and had 70 or so left to the middle of the pin. I've been working on my partial wedges, but should have consulted my cheat sheet because I took too much with my gap wedge and flew the green. I was in some pretty heavy rough and hit my 56 degree too far. That's 2 flew the green shots. I made solid contact both times, so I'm not too pissed. Had a chip left that I rolled to 5 feet. Some how pulled the putt and putted again for another double. Wow.

Hole 6, Par 4: Sliced the shit out of it. This hole doglegs left and opens right. So I had to pitch out to the fairway as I didn't have a shot to the green. Too far and I'd be in water so, I just did a short pitch. Next shot I pured my 9 iron to the center of the green. 2 putts and a bogey.

Hole 7, Par 3: Hit my 7 iron and just missed the green by about 5 feet. I chipped to 8 feet and made the putt for par.

Hole 8, Par 5: Another pull slice to the middle of the fairway. I hit every fairway today and I didn't like any of the shots. Funny game. I had 250 or so left and hit my 4 hybrid. I should have maybe hit my 5 hybrid because I was about 8 yds from the creek. Pitched the ball with my 56 and landed about 15 feet from the hole. 2 putts for a par.

Hole 9, Par 3: I hit my 4 hybrid very well but a little left. It went into the sand trap. I hit it short and was just short of the green. In my defense I never play from the sand I hit 2 more practice balls from the sand and hit the last one very well. Sand it weird. I chipped on, and rolled my putt around the rim of the cup and popped it out. That's two today. Bogey.

All in all I played good. I should have shot a 42 but, another 44. I'm going to break 40 for 9 at this course this year. That's my goal.

    • Thanks Bill, Really appreciate the tips! I'm hoping between side saddle putting and working on the Jim Venetos swing I'll drop some shots off my typically mid-90's score.
    • Thinking about seeing if our local course will make divot repair part of the annual youth camp….and I love @dennyjones comment to stick ‘em to the carts.   Sadly a lot of the older guys are not stable enough to bend down and make a good repair - so they just let them be or just do the putter tamp.  We also have one member who shuffles his way on and off the green - soft spike marks everywhere….
    • The lie is not really adjustable.  The PGA states that it must have at least 10 deg angle (not sure on the exact #) all of these putters came with the minimum allowable angle from vertical.  This is why the corners are beveled off.  The sole of the club is not intended to sit flat on the ground. Having said all this, the only way to change the angle is to bend the silver piece that the shaft is glued in to. In use: 1. Hold the putter with your top hand and let it dangle 2. the beveled edge will be the closest part to the ground 3. place bottom hand much like holding a pencil 4.  Club should swing forward and back freely but not hit your foot.  If it does then you need to move you top hand outward. 5. Do not manipulate the club path. straight forward and back 6. I keep my top hand tight on the putter.  My bottom hand twists the putter counter clockwise against my top hand.  This keeps the face from opening up. Good luck.  I have been using mine for close to 10 years.  I average 1.7 putts/hole (yes I have statistics on every hole I play) Bill
    • Day 29 (19 Feb 25) - Winter storm in place (here it's cold icy rain), inside day today - started with mirror work and 8i - working on weight shift sequence using shortened swing (backswing to P3) and coming through to P8.  Focused on sensing the shift to the lead foot as I get toward P3 and then coming through smoothly.  Followed up those series of rehearsals with some easy lag putts working to equalize backswing length with downswing finish to 3' - 5' - 8' distances.
    • This is a long shot given how old this thread is, but I just picked up a Reeso VTX putter and I'm trying to adjust the lie, but it's not obvious how to do that. Aside from unscrewing the hosel from the putter head everything else looks fused together. Wondering if @PRWELLMAN @Yipper @discap have any info about adjusting the lie. Thanks for the help.
