Well this is more of a spot to go through my rounds and reflect on them to help improve my game
should have done this from the beginning, but hey...no one said I was smart did they!!?? hahah!
Baby 2 is due any day, so this week is a marathon of golf, tees booked for every morning
I made my custom scorecard, ideas from the scorecard program, to help me w my stats - i use this instead of the course card now (even printed it on some card stock, its pretty slick....see below)

Anyways, here it is:

Date: 07/12/2010
Temp: 22º, Windy blowing at 35km/hr, partly cloudy
Course: Holiday Park 70.1/ 116 Back Tees

1- BOGEY - pulled rive left, had a good opening, laid up, hit approach to the flag and rolled off the back (apparanty the greens are hard today!). Chipped and rolled past hole to about 4 paces, missed putt and bogey .

2 - PAR - hit approach to pin high, just in the fringe, chipped to 1 foot and one putt

3 - BOGEY - pulled drive left again, was in trouble had to chip through the trees and out. Hit approach to 5 paces, 2 putt and bogied.

4 - TRIPLE....yes TRIPLE - perfect driver to right centre of fwy. Was in a divot, cleaned it over the green into bush...eff me. Was scrambled, had to take unplayable and dropped in some deep stuff...it went 10 feet. Chipped on to 5 paces and 2 putt for a 7...ouch.

5 - PAR (good recovery after a triple)- tail wind, hit 5i from 198yds to 22 paces from the hole, GIR. Missed birdie by 2" and par.

6- BIRDIE - pulled drive left....again.....hit approach to the right, as i couldn't see green. Hit pretty amazing chip from 20yds and almost holed it for eagle, left myself 6", tap in birdie.

7 - PAR - crushed 3w w big tailwind to 60yds, in divot again....it went 10 feet w the lob wedge...doh! Chipped it to 1 foot and par.

8 - BOGEY - apparantly the wind is now a 2 club tail wind and over shot my tee shot by a club (hit9 from 167 yds over the green). Great recovery chip to 3 paces and missed par.

9 - PAR - this is the toughest on the course and is rated so. Pulled drive left, approach fell short in the crosswind. Left myself 15 feet to the green, chipped it to 4" and tap in par. VERY HAPPY w a par on this hole.

Total Score - 40 (par 35)

Stats:

Fwy's Hit-1/6 = 16% (missed 4 left and one right-all pull's today)
Putts-14 = 1.55 putts
Putt Distance-4.8 paces on average
Putts per GIR-3 = 1.5 per GIR average
GIR = 2, 22%
Scrambling-3/7 holes = 42%
Penalties-1 (had to take an unplayable on 4)

not stoked about the round, but conditions were tough today - really the only thing that kicked my ass was the triple i took. I havent taken a triple since May.
also i am usually good for a 1-2 over on the back, so i may have walked away with a 6-7 over 77/78 today
need to work on the driver and hitting more GIR
my new plan is to work on just this - MORE FWY's hit, MORE GIR's = lower scores and more chances for bird...simple right?

"My swing is homemade - but I have perfect flaws!" - Me

    • I'm not sure you're calculating the number of strokes you would need to give correctly. The way I figure it, a 6.9 index golfer playing from tees that are rated 70.8/126 would have a course handicap of 6. A 20-index golfer playing from tees that are rated 64/106 would have a course handicap of 11. Therefore, based on the example above, assuming this is the same golf course and these index & slope numbers are based on the different tees, you should only have to give 5 strokes (or one stroke on the five most difficult holes if match play) not 6. Regardless, I get your point...the average golfer has no understanding of how the system works and trying to explain it to people, who haven't bothered to read the documentation provided by either the USGA or the R&A, is hopeless. In any case, I think the WHS as it currently is, does the best job possible of leveling the playing field and I think most golfers (obviously, based on the back & forth on this thread, not all golfers) at least comprehend that.
    • Day 115 12-5 Skills work tonight. Mostly just trying to be more aware of the shaft and where it's at. Hit foam golf balls.
    • Day 25 (5 Dec 25) - total rain day, worked on tempo and distance control.
    • Yes it's true in a large sample like a tournament a bunch of 20 handicaps shouldn't get 13 strokes more than you. One of them will have a day and win. But two on one, the 7 handicap is going to cover those 13 strokes the vast majority of the time. 20 handicaps are shit players. With super high variance and a very asymmetrical distribution of scores. Yes they shoot 85 every once in a while. But they shoot 110 way more often. A 7 handicap's equivalent is shooting 74 every once in a while but... 86 way more often?
