Well I should have stayed in bed today
It was NASTY out w a Capital N....wow

Weather:
8º C....yes 8º C today w winds gusting up to 55km/hr
Overcast and slight drizzle w on and off rain

Round: Holiday Park Back Tees, 70.7 / 116 Par 71

1-BOGEY - pulled driver left, hit approach over the trees to approx. 88 yds straight into the wind. Hit to the back of the green left myself 22 paces to the flag. 3 putt to bogey....arrggh.......I harte this hole. Its not that hard either.Straight away Par 5 495 yds. Not sure why I cant score on it

2-BOGEY - didnt grab anough club, came up short and left. Hit approach to 4 paces, 2 putt bogey.

3-BOGEY - pulled hooked drive left, punched out of trees (like yesterday), hit approach just off the back, chipped to 1 foot and one putt bogey.

4-BOGEY - nutted drive to left cente of the fwy (finally), hit approach pin high....in the greenside bunker..... hit out to approx. 10 paces (hard sand) and 2 putt bogey.

5-BOGEY - group ahead of me waive me on when i wasnt ready to tee. Guessed on the yardage, realized i had too much club and tried to hit a 1/2 5i.....right into the water...damn.....dropped in drop zone, chipped to one foot and one putt bogey. (this could have been a lot worse than a bogey...this is a scramble in my mind, but didnt count it as one)

6-PAR - nutted drive up the middle, in a divot (thats 3 divots in 2 days, seriously??!!!!) chunked 4w out of the divot short of the green. Hit a wicked SW to approx. 5 paces (elevated green, i was below the hole) drained iot for PAR...finally.

7-PAR - nutted 3w just barely out of the fwy in the 1st cut, in guess what... A FRICKEN DIVOT!!!!!!!!!!!! hit GW short of the green (not enough club again), chipped on to 4 paces and drained the par putt.

8-BIRDIE - 150 yds, straight side wind, hit 8i into the wind and let it cut back into the pin. Though it was going in, landed it 2 ft from the pin. It was starting to rain pretty good by now, gave myself the putt for bird.

9-PAR - big ol tail wind, nutted drive just barely in the first cut, 160 yds to the pin, bunker in front. Aimed left, let the wind slightly cut it into the pin, landed it 4 paces to the flag. Lipped bird out, par.

Total Score: 39 (par 35)

Stats:

Fwy's Hit-2/6 = 33% (but 3 of the holes, were just barely in the first cut)
Putts-14 = 1.55%
Putt Distance=6 paces on average
GIR-3/9 = 33%
Putts per GIR - 6/3 = 2 per green
Scrambling - 2/6 = 33%
Penalties - 1 (water hazard on 5)

As i stated up top, it was brutal out today
I'll take a 39 in today's weather any day of the week - it was tough man
need to book a lesson, as I seem to pulling driver and long irons left (coming OTT maybe......prob quick fix)
Ned to eliminate the penalites
Hit one more green then yesterday and scored one stroke better
also hit one more fwy - so Rebby's advice on hitting more fwy's and GIR's to score lower is spot on

until tomorrow......

PS - still no baby

    • I'm not sure you're calculating the number of strokes you would need to give correctly. The way I figure it, a 6.9 index golfer playing from tees that are rated 70.8/126 would have a course handicap of 6. A 20-index golfer playing from tees that are rated 64/106 would have a course handicap of 11. Therefore, based on the example above, assuming this is the same golf course and these index & slope numbers are based on the different tees, you should only have to give 5 strokes (or one stroke on the five most difficult holes if match play) not 6. Regardless, I get your point...the average golfer has no understanding of how the system works and trying to explain it to people, who haven't bothered to read the documentation provided by either the USGA or the R&A, is hopeless. In any case, I think the WHS as it currently is, does the best job possible of leveling the playing field and I think most golfers (obviously, based on the back & forth on this thread, not all golfers) at least comprehend that.
    • Day 115 12-5 Skills work tonight. Mostly just trying to be more aware of the shaft and where it's at. Hit foam golf balls.
    • Day 25 (5 Dec 25) - total rain day, worked on tempo and distance control.
    • Yes it's true in a large sample like a tournament a bunch of 20 handicaps shouldn't get 13 strokes more than you. One of them will have a day and win. But two on one, the 7 handicap is going to cover those 13 strokes the vast majority of the time. 20 handicaps are shit players. With super high variance and a very asymmetrical distribution of scores. Yes they shoot 85 every once in a while. But they shoot 110 way more often. A 7 handicap's equivalent is shooting 74 every once in a while but... 86 way more often?
