I've taken two lessons from a "pro" prior to this but those don't count because he had me swaying all over the place in order to get the feeling of weight shift.

Anyways, I am currently on unemployment and have time to golf and hit the gym quite often. I lack the funds to play a lot of golf but have a range pass from before. My lessons are being taught by a friend who is a scratch golfer that is knowledgeable in the swing. I do not know if this will have a devastating affect but since I am not playing well it cannot hurt.

So things we have been focusing on is my lack of a tempo and lack of a release. My swing has had a tough time this year and I think could be at its all time worst. I also have a habit of dropping my right shoulder. He says I should be pushing through the swing with my shoulder.

Working on: smooth backswing and try to be limber throughout the swing.

I'll post some swing videos and drill videos.

Hope it works out. Keep us posted WRX!

When I teach my friend, I try to focus not on what he's doing wrong, so much as what he needs to do.

Tempo is a beautiful thing when it's coupled with a solid swing, it kind of brings it all together, IMO.

For release, I try to think of "slinging" that club down the target line like an olympic hammer throw, but with forearm rotation -- shooting straight out toward the flag, before the final elements of the follow through are completed.

(The only instructional background I have is as a windsurfing instructor and a former language teacher...plus, like the rest of us here, I read the books and pay attention to the methodologies and theories, TGM, Hogan, Brian Manzella, and whatnot.)

I have him working on my full swing and I have working hard on my own on putting. My short game currently is slacking a bit but putting has definitely improved. Very often in the high 20's for putts even with one or two 3 putts. Definitely need to work on accuracy with my irons since my putts per GIR is not all that great.
