In a few days I am playing as part of a 4-man team for the Northern California Associate Club championship. It's a net best 2-of-4, across 2 days. First day is Spyglass, next day is Poppy Hills. I am sure both courses will be challenging. I've played Poppy and think I'll be OK there. Spyglass is another matter entirely. I might not hit my driver as a) it's been wild, even with some corrective lessons, and b) I am hitting my #3 hybrid long and straight. The thing with that, though, is that it's a recipe for bogey. Bogey doesn't really help the team in that format. What I need to do is to get some pars even if I blow up 1/2 the holes and end up with a garish stroke count overall...if I pop in some pars with my handicap it will help us in the net scoring. That's the only reason I am considering sticking with the driver: GIR.

I have two rounds to tune-up, one Friday (tomorrow) and one Sunday (the day before Spyglass). I'll try going driverless tomorrow and if I can pour in, say, six GIR, I will be OK with using the 3H.

I also think that hitting and staying on the greens on the par 3 holes will be great, so I will focus on keeping a smooth swing. I am pretty surprised that we made it to the finals (30 teams overall) and stoked about free golf at Spyglass. I'll post the results of the rounds (practice and tourney) as they go down.

    • It’s possible the graphite shaft has a small internal crack or a delamination. Tapping it and hearing a vibrating sound is usually a sign the shaft isn’t behaving as it should. Since the store wasn’t helpful, consider taking it to a club fitter or a pro shop that can check the shaft flex and integrity. If it’s defective, you might be able to get a replacement from the manufacturer.
    • It’s interesting how much a 3D system changes your understanding. Observing top players in full detail and realizing the trail knee shouldn’t fully extend is a great example of why being open to new info is so important. I like your approach: not trying to be “right,” but trying to teach correctly based on actual evidence. Makes sense why golfers would benefit from this perspective.
    • I would say both are equally not the best for golf. Is it better than nothing, sure.  Golf is an athletic motion. Professional golfers are doing a comprehensive workout routine focusing on strength, power, flexibility, stability. They might include some yoga into the routine. I would put both of them in the recovery bin, not golf enhancement bin.  If you want to increase swing speed, core strength, longevity in golf and life, then lift heavy weights.
