Today was awesome. There were two firsts for me today.

One was wearing pants for the first time ever while golfing (as it was drizzling and i used to not play when it rained).

Second was hitting a perfect push draw (a few times actually) with my 8iron and noticed that it went 10y farther than normal (about 155-160). My alignment stick was pointed directly at the target. The ball pushed 5-10y right of target before drawing back 5-10y. This happened maybe 3 or 4 times total. I hit about 10 push over draws where they would only push a few yards and draw much more (due to a more closed face) left of target.

STILL, the big breakthrough is finally being able to push the ball without fading it too. I can say I successfully hit a professional looking push draw today. The ball flight looked like Charlie Hoffman's Winning Draw, except nowhere near as high and not as big of a push.

I can't say I've successfully done this with the driver and actually know how I've done it. I am going to keep working on this part.

Pushing the hips forward at address to preset weight has really helped me start pushing the ball (instead of flipping and pulling it). Last week I could only hit pull fades an pull draws and the occasional straight draw. I am going to work a lot these next couple weeks on hitting a push draw with the driver.

I really, really need to get fit for a driver especially. That way I can truly know what my swing errors are and not second guess if it's partially the drivers fault. To be honest, the club feels too long and too upright in my hands. If I grip down on it the lie feels more flat on the ground.

    • It’s possible the graphite shaft has a small internal crack or a delamination. Tapping it and hearing a vibrating sound is usually a sign the shaft isn’t behaving as it should. Since the store wasn’t helpful, consider taking it to a club fitter or a pro shop that can check the shaft flex and integrity. If it’s defective, you might be able to get a replacement from the manufacturer.
    • It’s interesting how much a 3D system changes your understanding. Observing top players in full detail and realizing the trail knee shouldn’t fully extend is a great example of why being open to new info is so important. I like your approach: not trying to be “right,” but trying to teach correctly based on actual evidence. Makes sense why golfers would benefit from this perspective.
    • I would say both are equally not the best for golf. Is it better than nothing, sure.  Golf is an athletic motion. Professional golfers are doing a comprehensive workout routine focusing on strength, power, flexibility, stability. They might include some yoga into the routine. I would put both of them in the recovery bin, not golf enhancement bin.  If you want to increase swing speed, core strength, longevity in golf and life, then lift heavy weights.
