Hey blue crush, timely thread . . . i just bought a SkyCaddie the SG2 for $329 plus $29.95 for the basic download package.
Took it out on the course today . . . i heard that the first time you try and use it you may struggle with your game, too much on your mind etc . . . well this is right, my game went in the toilet.

But later in the round i began to settle in a bit with the device and it is very helpful for iron approaches and very accurate. For me with terrible eyesight i always stuggle with yardage distances, so SkyCaddie will really help.

But off the tee, it may cloud your mind with too much info about bunkers and carry and end of fairway, etc. so i may just use it for iron approaches.

There were a lot of glitches but i believe that once you get used to it, it will be a big help.

you bring up something else I wondered about too
and that was the size of the screen.....
for me with my phone sometime I have to
pull out my cheaters to see the sm print....
I surely don't want to have to carry a set
of cheaters to see the screen....
and I'm guessing its not in color,so
how easy was it to see the display in the sunlight....???
thanks...

the screen is very easy to read . . . it has a default feature called Big# which displays the yardage to the center of the green in real big numbers.

You can switch out of this mode to the Pro mode which shows you the yardage to the front, middle, and back of the green and enables you to move the flag around to where it is positioned on that day and get accurate yardage, but the numbers are small and for someone who is far-sighted this could be an issue.

As far as seeing the numbers in the sun, yea, i was worried about this too, but it was no problem. I know cell phones can be a problem in the sun but the SkyCaddie has perfect clarity in full sun.

If you are far-sighted you can use it, just keep it in the Big# mode.

    • I'm good with the bunkers, and the fairways are SUPER wide. Three yards should stop a ball that isn't landing in it from rolling into the hay.
    • I'm a little behind, but I just finished listening to the episode about practicing while on vacation.  I have two vacations coming up this month that I won't be bringing golf clubs with me on, and this was perfectly timed (I'm sure I am not the only one going on vacation in June).   Especially the part about stretching.  I keep putting off adding stretching, with golf in mind, to my daily routine.  I think I'm going to use these upcoming vacations, the first of which I'm flying off to on Thursday, as a way to get into this habit.   For anyone else interested, Fit For Golf (see sidebar) has fantastic stretching routines (some of which, I think, are on their free area).  I really should get back to doing their main exercises too.  I don't have any affiliation with them beyond "satisfied customer," in case that sounds like an ad. I may end up posting in the 5 minutes thread when I do golf stretches if it's my only practice that day... as if I don't already sound like a broken mp3 with my 10-15 minutes hitting indoors part. And back to the topic:  anyone not caught up on the podcast should consider catching up and listen to that episode, especially if you're going on a non-golf vacation this summer and want some practice ideas that aren't the at-home practice routine from LSW about long bunker shots (which I am sure we all do regularly).
    • Mostly pull cuts to slices. Some random pull draw/hooks pending of I hit the toe.
    • What's the rest of that story? Where was the ball going?
    • The criticisms are starting already 🤣 U.S. Open pro criticizes Shinnecock green conditions: 'Bumpy' After playing his first practice round at the 2026 U.S. Open, Michael Kim offered a less-than-glowing review of Shinnecock's "bumpy" greens.   The sand, I don't care about that. If the greens didn't come back as well for latest aerification, that would be a bit of a blunder on Shinnecock I think.
