I am 51 years old, 27 handicapper, 94 mph driver speed, 78 mph 6 iron speed. Currently playing Tour Edge steel irons, uni-flex. I am considering going to Tour Edge QL graphite (or Mizuno or Callaway).

Should I go to stiff flex or regular? I am worried regular may be too whippy. Is a stiff graphite equal to regular steel flex-wise?

Thanks

One other question---I have been measured and play 1" over. Graphite shafts are normally 1/2 inch longer than Steel. Does that mean I should get graphite 1/2" over?

thanks

I would find a rep clubfitter and put it in his/her hands.. there is no standard for flex between companys, so "Nike's" reg flex might be "Taylor Mades" A-Flex that is why it is not possible to say oh ok your swing speed if this so you need stiff or whatever..

hope this helps..

from my experience, if your swingspeed is over 90, a regular graphite shaft will be way too whippy. my TA-6's came with stock cleveland graphite shafts that made my shots very inconsistent. i reshafted them with royal precision rifle shafts and it's been great ever since. if you're determined to get graphite shafts, i'd say a stiff flex would be your best bet. however, going to a clubfitter would be the best option if you don't mind spending the extra money.
